HOLLAND & SONS, INC Route 251 South Mendota 815-539-6724 1-800-541-4814 Peer Ministry Update: We continue to have about 20 teens at each of our Wednesday meetings. Subjects that have been discussed in the past few weeks are perseverance in faith, miracles in today's world, Fatima, omnipresence of God, abortion and the March for Life. This past Wednesday, All Saint's Day, we attended the 6pm mass as a group and then visited the cemetery to offer prayers for the souls in purgatory. We discussed indulgences before leaving the church to better understand the grace that God gives us in being able to pray for the dead and gain a plenary indulgence for one soul in purgatory, therefore delivering them to heaven. This is the only time of year that we are able to do that directly for a soul in purgatory, one per day from November 1-8. Meeting schedule for this month: November 16th - BOYS only November 22nd - NO meeting (thanksgiving break) November 29th - meeting as usual We meet from 6:30-8:00pm at the home of Jeff & Kim Schimmer 1500 Walnut Avenue, Mendota Please text Kim at 815-910-3400 for more information.
THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME MOST REV. DANIEL R. JENKY, C.S.C. OFFICE OF THE BISHOP DIOCESE OF PEORIA OFFICE OF THE BISHOP 419 N.E. MADISON AVENUE PEORIA, ILLINOIS 61603 PHONE: 309-671-1550 FAX: 309-671-1576 Dear Friends in Christ, November 2017 Right now, many American families are struggling to make ends meet. As people are laid off, lose homes to foreclosure, the rising cost of health insurance, and watching retirement funds disappear; it may be difficult to think of others in need. However, financial struggles have become even harder for the 46.2 million Americans who have been living in poverty. For over 40 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has come to the aid of organizations nationwide in an effort to eradicate poverty in America. Just as the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that "the Church's love for the poor... is a part of her constant tradition" (no. 2444), it is also the tradition of CCHD to love the poor by helping to end the cycle of poverty. Through CCHD the Catholic Church is working to continue its tradition of love for the poor. Please help the efforts of CCHD to break the cycle of poverty. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Support CCHD in the upcoming Collection. And remember, 25% of the Collection's proceeds stay here in our diocese to fight poverty in our communities and defend the dignity of our neighbors. In Catholic social teaching, we are called to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free. (Lk 4: 18) Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C. BISHOP OF PEORIA Bulletin Announcement for Mass Schedule changes As I discussed back in June, I have reviewed the Mass schedule for the weekday Masses. Beginning with Monday, January 1 st, 2018, there will be a change to the daily Mass schedule. Please note that Monday, January 1 st, 2018, will NOT be a Holy Day of OBLIGATION. With this change, we will no longer need to cancel a Mass if a funeral arises. Saturday & Sunday will stay the same. Now, for the Schedule: Monday 6:30 PM Tuesday 7:00 AM Wednesday 8:00 AM Thursday 7:00 AM Friday 8:00 AM Adoration Chapel this will remain the same for Monday Friday, with one exception. We will not have Adoration during the Monday evening Mass from 6:30 PM 7:00 PM. Hospital Mass Will still be at 11:30 AM on Tuesdays Separate notice: I know that the devotional candles are difficult to light for some of you, but the Diocesan Insurance has mandated that we remove the matches. If you can find a better lighter for the candles, by all means please show it to me and the church will purchase them for the candles. But we cannot go back to the matches.
