St. Timothy Book Group News Our book group met recently to discuss My Life with the Saints by James Martin, SJ. Our discussion focused on the personal way that Fr. Martin talked about these saints and the impact they have had on his faith. It was very engaging to hear the history of Fr. Martin s life be revealed as he described who and when he came into contact with the saints in the book. Some of the saints in this book, such as Thomas Merton, are not officially canonized by the Church, which reminds us of the many holy men and women who populate our world and who are even part of our own lives. This was a very enjoyable read that the group rated an 8.3 on our ratings scale. No book has been assigned for December. Instead, we invite all to join us for an informal social gathering of cookies, coffee and a book gift swap. All parishioners are invited to attend. Please bring a wrapped book for swapping and a SMALL plate of treats for sharing. We will provide coffee and tea. We have made our book selections through May. If you are looking for gift ideas for Christmas, perhaps you can offer some of these titles to the book lovers in your life! Our meeting dates and books are as follows. All meetings are from 7:30-9pm. December 16: Social Evening. Bring a wrapped book to swap! January 27: Breach of Trust: How Americans Failed Their Soldiers and Their Country, by Andrew Bacevich. A Message From Our Pastor Dear friends, Many thanks for your wonderful support of our Giving Tree project your thoughtfulness will certainly brighten this season for many deserving individuals. Many thanks also go out to Betty Mastandrea who has coordinated this project for so many years. She and her helpers do a great job getting the lists together and making sure each need is fulfilled. The main theme of the Advent season is to remember that Christ came to earth 2,000 years ago to teach us by His words and example how we are to live out our lives as His followers. The season also reminds us that Christ will come again to evaluate how faithful we have been in living out His word and example. Advent is that time of year to look at ourselves honestly and to be grateful for the good things we do but also to realize that sometimes we all fall short and realize that if some things in our lives could be changed we would be better disciples of Jesus. One of the wonderful gifts the Church gives us as we attempt to conform our lives to the life and values of Jesus, is by means of the Sacrament of Penance. We offer that Sacrament each Saturday afternoon at 3:30. Last week we invited the 5 th grade students to come to church for the reception of the Sacrament and I was very pleased with the number of boys and girls who came with their parents last Wednesday evening. As Christmas approaches, we wanted to offer an additional time for the Sacrament of Penance. At 7pm on Tuesday Dec. 17th we have invited the parishioners of St. Catherine parish to join us here at St. Timothy s for a brief Penance Service followed by an opportunity to receive this Sacrament. We will have priests available from both parishes to hear Confessions that evening. Please consider being with us next Tuesday. Of all the things we do this Advent season in preparation for Christmas getting to Confession might be one of the most important things we do to prepare for this wonderful Christmas feast. If we can feel more at peace with God and others by means of this Sacrament then truly we have received a gift that keeps on giving. Fr. Culloty Please join us for our Annual Epiphany Celebration!!! Friday, January 3rd, 6pm You won t want to miss this delightful parish event! Join us for a spirit-filled evening of fun, friends, music, carols and a telling of the rich, wonderful stories of the Christmas season. Every year there s at least one surprise twist what will we be up to this year? Participate in a meaningful and joyful way!!! We need kids, teens & adults to be part of the intergenerational pageant! (Kids need to be at least 5 years old to participate.) Rehearsal Schedule: Sundays December 8 th & December 15 th 2-3:30pm Dress rehearsal Thursday January 2 nd 5:30-6:30pm Prefer to help out behind the scenes? We also need help with costumes, set-up and clean up, angel herding and sheep wrangling probably a million other things as well. If you re willing to help, we ll find a job for you! Call the office at 781-769-2522 or email Colleen at cncampion@yahoo.com Let us know how you d like to be a part of the fun! St. Timothy/St. Catherine Penance Service Tuesday, December 17th 7:00pm St. Timothy Church ************************************* Christmas Honor s List Each year we print an Honor s List in order to honor family and friends who are deceased. This year the list will be part of our January 5th bulletin.
