Our Council Log KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Transcription:

There is a landscape day at the Church on June 9th, it starts at 9 am and ends by 11 am. There is a Knights of Columbus Luau on June 30th at Our Lady of Grace, 5:30 to 9 pm. Roast pork will be served and hula dancers will entertain. See Larry Davis to buy tickets. Grand Knight s Message Our Council is growing but do not stop recruiting new members. Talk about being a Knight, we will have Knights of Columbus information handouts at the June 4th business meeting. The handouts tell what Knights do worldwide. We are starting get younger members. We will ask all members for fund raising ideas and for family event ideas. The Knights served Mother's Day breakfast at Our Lady of Grace on May 13th. I thank all Knights for cooking, serving and cleaning up. The Hygiene Ministry desperately needs donations of Men's and Women's: underwear, tee shirts, socks, deodorant, bug spray, sunscreen and chapstick. These items can be dropped off at the hall on Fridays from 11-2 or at the Church. St. Vincent DePaul needs help every Wednesday at 8 am to unload food at the Battersea St. location. Help St. Vincent DePaul if you can. The Council 13243 officer's elections will be held at the June 4th business meeting, the District Deputy will officiate. The meeting is at 7 pm, all members of Council 13243 should attend this meeting to vote for the officers. Please consider being an officer. Elections will be held for Advocate, 3 Trustees, Chancellor, Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Inside Guard, Outside Guard, Recorder, Treasurer, and Warden. The May 4th and May 5th Tootsie roll booth was a great success. Thanks to Jim Cleary and Ron Gento for heading this charitable cause. All money collected is given to people with disabilities. The next Tootsie roll booth is July 6-7, please sign up to hand out Tootsie rolls. 114 th Annual Florida State Council Convention: GK Mark Stephenson and PGK Larry Davis attended the State Convention over Memorial Day weekend. The convention was held in the Hyatt Regency International Drive. We were able to meet Knights from around the state, listen to reports from all the state officers and see what is going around the state from other councils. All the state officers were elected to serve a second term. Our own District Deputy Vinnie Modeen was elected to be an alternate delegate to the Supreme

Convention in Baltimore this August. It was also noted that the 2202 Supreme Convention will be held in Orlando. The Florida State Raffle winners were chosen. Just over 200,000 raffle tickets were sold. No one from our jurisdictions won any of the prize money. The State decided to conduct the raffle again this upcoming year and raffle tickets are available now. There were 3 Masses celebrated over the weekend. Friday s Mass was presided over by Bishop Winski of Miami, Saturday s Mass was said by the Bishop of the Bahamas and was a memorial Mass remembering the priests and knights who had passed away. Our members Joe Dischinger, Raymond Boudin and William Maroney were listed in the Necrology. Sunday s Mass was celebrated by a Bishop and priest of the Eastern Rite of the Catholic church. The Mass was considerably different from what we are used but very interesting. And lastly, congratulations to the members of our council for receiving third place in Family Activities for Division 2. Mark and Larry enjoying the State Banquet. Our Guarantees Set Us Apart Knights of Columbus life insurance offers something precious few other financial products can guarantees. As long as you pay your premiums, the policy proceeds will be there for your beneficiaries should something happen to you. That s peace of mind, and that s what we offer with every product in our portfolio. We guarantee the cash value in your whole life policies will be there. We guarantee the rates on your term insurance. We guarantee the rate and your principal in our retirement annuities. On top of those product guarantees, I guarantee that I will offer professional, highquality service that you would expect from our organization. Our Order is among the highest rated life insurers in North America. AM Best has rated the Knights of Columbus A++, Superior for 40 consecutive years. It s a testament to our track record for excellence and security. I would suggest that a principal reason that we were able to achieve those accolades is because we remain steadfastly committed to

the vision of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney by providing life insurance by brother Knights for brother Knights. That commitment is an essential core value of the Knights of Columbus, and our core values permeate all levels of our organization. We pledge to serve our brother Knights, and their families, according to our Golden Rule: In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself. Let s talk soon to discuss how our products can bring that peace of mind to you and your family. Brian Lazusky 336-254-8734 brian.lazusky@kofc.orgwe We are in the news: From the May edition of Knights in Action Our Lady of Grace Council 13243 in Palm Bay cooked and served a spaghetti dinner for students of Florida Institute of Technology. Held at the college s Newman Club, the council served some 75 students of all denominations at the meal. Local councils each take a turn, about four times a year, with this service to the students. The students are very grateful and the council members enjoy fellowship during this task. 6/01 Quentin Mears 6/15 Stephen Drake 6/02 Angel Andujar 6/23 William Anderson 6/02-Marcel Chukwunenye 6/27 Michael Smith 6/03 Adrian Rines 6/28 Gary Nolte 6/05 Frank DeLaRosa 6/28 Michael Norton 6/05 Phillip McCutcheon 6/29 Robert Couch 6/07 Chris Sansonia 6/29 Paul Herrera 6/09 Miguel Aguilu Anniversary of Knighthood 6/01/88 David Flaherty 6/21/04 Joseph Belotte 6/21/04 Robert Ghany 6/06/05 Osvaldo Agrait-Ruiz 6/22/06 Frank Zampognia 6/28/07 Fermin Archer 6/28/11 Robert Couch 6/28/11 Hector Nieves 6/28/11 Raymond Quinn 6/28/11 Vincent Spagnola 6/10/14 Pete Hermsen 6/21/16 Robert DeAngelo 6/21/16 Ryan Smith 6/12/17 Isaiah Cochrane 6/27/17 Phillip Rucki

Our newest council member Jeff Stephens Congratulations to: Knight of the Month for May: Tom Flavell Family of the Month for May: Jim and Vivian Cleary Knight of the Year 2017-2018: Tim Jacques Family of the Year 2017-2018: Sam Mangual & Marielle Bozza The Family Fully Alive The form of marital and family love is given by God himself, who is love. The Christian family, the domestic church, has been entrusted with the irreplaceable vocation of being the first school of human and divine love. Meditation From an article by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori Parents have, or should have, a unique relationship with their children. They have been called by God to love their child with the same faithful, self-giving love in which the child was conceived. To be sure, the notion of self-giving love is not an idealistic or naive concept dreamed up by theologians. It is demanding and sacrificial. Self-giving love has its source in the Trinity and is revealed most fully by Jesus on the Cross. It requires what Pope Francis calls an exodus from self so that we might focus on the needs of others, even when that causes disruption in our lives.... Most fundamentally, teaching children the art of living involves lessons of faith and character. Parents teach children their first prayers, bring them to Mass on Sunday, and help them develop a basic sense of right and wrong coupled with a sense of responsibility. They also teach gratitude and generosity by helping their children learn to take care of their possessions; to not always expect to have the latest and best of everything; and to grow in the habit of sharing what they have with others. Moreover, parents help their children learn to handle life s inevitable disappointments, including the invidious comparisons that are part of the highly competitive and materialistic culture in which we live. Such lessons are best learned at home, in an atmosphere of respect and love....

As Pope Francis said, Parents are called not only to bring children into the world but also to bring them to God (Lumen Fidei, 43). 1. What do we learn from our family? Have we learned the art of living? If so, of what does this art of living consist? 2. What is self-giving love? 3. How have we learned about self-giving love from our family? Scripture Reading - Psalm 119:1-3, 9-12, 33-38, 105-108 A prayer to God, the Lawgiver Blessed those whose way is blameless, who walk by the law of the LORD. Blessed those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with all their heart. They do no wrong; they walk in his ways. How can the young keep his way without fault? Only by observing your words. With all my heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments. In my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you. Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes. LORD, teach me the way of your statutes; I shall keep them with care. Give me understanding to keep your law, to observe it with all my heart. Lead me in the path of your commandments, for that is my delight. Direct my heart toward your testimonies and away from gain. Avert my eyes from what is worthless; by your way give me life. For your servant, fulfill your promise made to those who fear you. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. I make a solemn vow to observe your righteous judgments. I am very much afflicted, LORD; give me life in accord with your word. Accept my freely offered praise; LORD, teach me your judgments. Family Project An important part of love consists in doing things out of love for others, even things that we may find unpleasant. To encourage these little sacrifices, research and make sacrifice beads (also known as good deed beads ), inspired by a practice that St. Therese of the Child Jesus used to do when she was a child. Sacrifice beads are essentially a way of helping the family look for opportunities to make little offerings of love to God through small acts of self-giving service.
