Hixson Presbyterian Church February 17, 2019 Prelude Greetings Robert Johnson Call to Worship Valley Of Vision Prayer of Preparation & Confession Come, Thou Almighty King Come, thou Almighty King, help us thy name to sing, help us to praise: Father! all-glorious, o er all victorious, come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days. Come, thou Incarnate Word, gird on thy mighty sword, our prayer attend! Come, and thy people bless, and give thy word success: Spirit of holiness, on us descend. Come, Holy Comforter, thy sacred witness bear in this glad hour! Thou, who almighty art, now rule in ev ry heart and ne er from us depart, Spirit of pow r. To thee, great One in Three, eternal praises be, hence evermore; his sov reign majesty may we in glory see, and to eternity love and adore. Nothing In All The Earth What shall separate us from Your love? Can years of sorrow break eternal bonds? Can condemnation ever raise its voice Against the pardon of the blood of Christ? Though our journey here is long This will be our triumph song Chorus: Nothing in all the earth Not any height above Could ever tear us from Your everlasting love Nothing in all the earth Not any height above Could ever tear us from Your everlasting love What shall separate us from Your love? For now the sting of death is overcome And all the powers of this world must fall Before Your feet because You rule them all And though our journey here is long This shall be our triumph song Nothing in all the earth Could ever tear us from Your everlasting love He Will Hold Me Fast When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast I could never keep my hold Through life s fearful path
For my love is often cold, He must hold me fast Chorus: He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast For my Savior loves me so, He will hold me fast Those He saves are His delight, Christ will hold me fast Precious in His holy sight, He will hold me fast He ll not let my soul be lost, His promises shall last Bought by Him at such a cost, He will hold me fast For my life He bled and died, Christ will hold me fast Justice has been satisfied, He will hold me fast Raised with Him to endless life, He will hold me fast Till our faith is turned to sight When he comes at last Prayer of Intercession God s Tithes and Our Offerings *Please fill out the friendship folder found at the end of the pew* Children Pre-K through1st grade are invited to Children s Church Offertory Amazing Grace Ian Bonner Sermon Recapturing Repentance Greg Baney Jeremiah 3:21-4:4 Benediction Postlude God, Be Merciful to Me God, be merciful to me; on Thy grace I rest my plea. Plenteous in compassion Thou, blot out my transgressions now; Wash me, make me pure within; cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin. My transgressions I confess; grief and guilt my soul oppress. I have sinned against Thy grace, and provoked Thee to Thy face. I confess Thy judgment just; speechless, I Thy mercy trust. I am evil, born in sin; Thou desirest truth within. Thou alone my Savior art, teach Thy wisdom to my heart; Make me pure, Thy grace bestow, wash me whiter than the snow. Broken, humbled to the dust, by Thy wrath and judgment just. Let my contrite heart rejoice, and in gladness hear Thy voice; From my sins O hide Thy face, blot them out in boundless grace. Gracious God, my heart renew, make my spirit right and true. Cast me not away from Thee, let Thy Spirit dwell in me; Thy salvation s joy impart, steadfast make my willing heart. Sinners then shall learn from me, and return, O God, to Thee. Savior, all my guilt remove, and my tongue shall sing Thy love. Touch my silent lips, O Lord, and my mouth shall praise accord.
Why do we do that? Prayer of Confession: In our time of worship we have a corporate prayer of confession as well as a time of silence for each individual to repent of their sin. We do this because we are an unclean people, coming to God with unclean lips and hearts (Is. 6:5). Psalm 66:18 tells us the Lord won t even hear our prayer if we cherish sin in our hearts. When we come to worship the Lord we must first be cleansed from sin and guilt. This restores the communication between the worshipper and the One being worshipped. Psalm 51 repeats this idea when it tells us that the sacrifices God desires are a broken spirit and a contrite heart. Here again the Lord tells us to come before Him with repentance and contrition. As we confess, we trust in the work Christ has done to pay for our sins and to enable us to truly worship. Congregation Standing CCLI#540356 *Please feel free to sit as necessary
