Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church June 26, 2016 God Be with You, Father Chan! Fr. Chan Woo Lee, a newly ordained priest for the archdiocese of Los Angeles, was appointed as associate Pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish on July 1, 2012. At the time of his ordination, Fr. Chan was the youngest priest in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Most of his classmates were much older. Father grew up in Los Angeles and is a product of the Los Angeles Unified School System, but he also is a proud Bruin graduate of UCLA. Along the journey of his life, Father felt the call of Jesus to follow Him as a priest, and he responded positively. The seminary process is a long one, but Fr. Chan successfully moved forward and was ordained a priest by Archbishop Jose Gomez in 2012. There is always much for a young priest to learn as he begins the journey of the Priesthood. In the early years much time and energy is simply involved with learning what it means to be a priest, and for a parish priest that is largely becoming attentive to the daily life of a priest: learning how to say Mass, hear confessions, prepare couples for marriage, anoint the sick, baptize new members into our Church, and many other priestly responsibilities. It s a challenge, but our faith-filled community at St. Charles knows how to welcome and help a newly ordained priest. After a few months, Father Chan expressed a desire to concentrate on guiding the young. He spent much time in the day school, weekend religion classes, and confirmation. He coordinated the altar servers. As time went on he involved himself with our young adults: THE VINE. Forming community, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and some well-thought-out classes on Love and Responsibility, following the teaching of St. John Paul II on Theology of the Body, became his weekly responsibility. Encouraging THE WAY, an outreach out group for teenagers, has been a moving force for the benefit of the young people. Father Chan will be leaving us at St. Charles and beginning a new chapter in his priestly life at St. John Vianney in Hacienda Heights. Our parish thanks God for sending him to us. We are grateful to him for all he has done for our community. He has brought the face of Jesus to us in his own humble way. HE will do much good for the people of God. As his pastor the last four years I am most grateful for the energy and enthusiasm of a young energetic Spirit Filled brother priest. We will pray for you Father. Please pray for us! Fraternally, Father Bob Gallagher, Pastor

Page Four St. Charles Borromeo Church 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time MONSIGNOR LORENZO MIRANDA MOVING TO DOWNEY Monsignor Lorenzo, who just celebrated 25 years of priestly ministry in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, has been appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Downey beginning on July 1, 2016. We send him to his new assignment with our prayers and best wishes. He will be a great Pastor! Monsignor Lorenzo was in the Office of the Vicar for Clergy for six years. His full time job was the care of the Clergy. This past year he has been on sabbatical, and he has been very active here at St. Charles Borromeo in our various ministries. Monsignor, your brother priests here at St. Charles, and our Parishioners, thank you for your loving priestly fraternity and generous service here at St. Charles! Ad Multos Annos, Father Bob Gallagher, Pastor The Sick and Homebound Ministry is looking for someone who would be interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister to serve at the Inn on the Boulevard facility located on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. You need not already be a Eucharistic Minister. Training will be provided. If you are interested, please contact Mary Genova at 818-954-8955. Safeguard the Children INCREASE SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH PRAISE Praise is just as important as providing food and shelter for a child. Praise is an important aspect of raising a confident child. When you praise a child, not only do you raise their self-esteem and selfconcept but you increase their overall self-worth. One thing you can do is focus on the child and describe what you see. For example, you can say: You are so patient. That means a lot to your little brother. For more tips on praising children please email jvienna@la-archdiocese.org or call 213-637-7227. ST. CHARLES BORROMEO PARISH NOW PROVIDES ONLINE GIVING. A CONVENIENT & SAFE WAY TO MAKE A DONATION. REGISTERING IS EASY: JUST VISIT OUR WEBSITE, WWW.SCBNH.ORG, AND CLICK OUR LINK. WHEN YOU PARTICIPATE, YOUR GIFT WILL BE SECURELY TRANSFERRED DIRECTLY INTO THE PARISH BANK ACCOUNT.
