First Presbyterian Church 101 S. Center St., Marshalltown, Iowa 50158 Phone 641-753-5929 E-mail church@fpcmarshalltown.org www.fpcmarshalltown.org 9:00 a.m. April 7, 2019 Just as many people in the Bible welcomed Jesus into their homes, so He welcomes us here. Welcome to worship. Large print bulletins are available, and children s bulletins are available on the table in the Narthex. A nursery is available for infants up to 5 years-of-age.

Those who are able are invited to stand. PRELUDE O God, Our Help in Ages Past William Croft LIFE OF THE CONGREGATION Moment of silence to prepare your hearts for worship SONG OF DEVOTION (hymnal & screen) (please remain seated) #393 Breathe on Me, Breath of God (vs. 1-2) LET US WORSHIP GOD TOGETHER CALL TO WORSHIP (Malachi 3:1-2, 16-18) Leader: I will send My messenger, who will prepare the way before Me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to His temple; the Messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come, says the Lord Almighty. People: But who can endure the day of His coming? Who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a refiner s fire or a launderer s soap. Leader: Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in His presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored His Name. People: On the day when I act, says the Lord Almighty, they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not. INVOCATION Leader: Lord, God Almighty, come to us and draw us to You. We confess that we are not able to follow You with Your help. Drive the evil one from us and make us holy through Your redeeming work. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. SONGS OF PRAISE (screen) Shout to the North In Christ Alone

CALL TO CONFESSION: (Psalm 106:6-8) Leader: We have sinned, even as our ancestors did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly. When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to Your miracles; they did not remember Your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. Yet He saved them for His Name s sake, to make His mighty power known. In humility and penitence, we bow before You, God, and confess our need for Your grace. Please join me in confessing our sins in silent prayer. SILENT PRAYER PRAYER OF CONFESSION Unison: Lord, God Almighty, come to us and remove all that is wicked and unjust. Make us holy as You are Holy. Drive all that is unpleasing from our lives and quench our desire for evil. Make us into Your holy people set aside for doing good. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Psalm 106:1-5) Leader: Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare His praise? Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Remember me, Lord, when You show favor to Your people, come to my aid when You save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of Your nation and join Your inheritance in giving praise. Sisters and brothers in Christ, believe the good news: through faith in Christ we are forgiven. AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles Creed Unison: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
