Jacksonville Gem and Mineral Society: Volume 56 No. 7 July 2016 NEWSLETTER A Word from the President:. Welcome new members. The club is very active and that is a Good thing. It's All about having F U N. Doesn't matter when I drop by the club, seems that there is a class or two in progress. JGMS is certainly getting our "Bang for our Buck". Well really, where else can you go and have so much F U N!. Great, we have very good instructors, best facility and "AC". So, come join a class and have F U N. Turn your dreams into a Beautiful work or art. Also to mention the Quarterly Dinner. Russ treated us all to his Special spaghetti sauce. About 45 members joined for an evening of, you guessed it, F U N. Respectfully, JGMS President Craig Hamilton COPS Community Outreach Program May and June were very busy. Was invited to 2 days of Cub Scout Day Camp Had an Exhibit in the Kori Rd. Branch Library for a month and I have a COPS program at a local Methodist Church July 25th Currently I have 2 Rock Tumblers going to polish rocks to give to students who give a correct answer to questions in class. Off the rest of the summer. Education is very important and Teaching "Earth Sciences" is a vital part of a child s learning experience. We need your help! Please volunteer your time to help share information about JGMS at our local schools and youth groups. Please contact Craig at cbhshell@att.net COPS Chairman, Craig Hamilton

Show and Tell: Items were presented by Bill Poland, Kathleen Bigg, Mari Webb, Linda Weinstein, Gerri O Meara, Ed Price, Lisa Royal, Mary McCormack, Dixie Murphy, Karen Boger, Eero Mauerman, Cecelia Stanley and Jason Hamilton.

Meeting called to order at 7:05 P.M. JGMS General Meeting Minutes July 7, 2016 New members and visitors recognized. Visitor Mark from Charleston, Frank Stanley, visitor and new member Dorie Kline. It was moved by Spencer Herring to accept the June minutes as published in the Newsletter. Seconded by Kaet Bigg. Motion carried. Treasurer s report given by Mari Webb. It was moved and seconded to accept the treasurer s report. Motion carried. Mari reported that we now have the money for a new roof. President Craig Hamilton reminded Chairs to send their reports to Sherry Jones in a timely manner. President Craig Hamilton reminded all members to keep up with and pay dues on time. Jason Hamilton reported that there will be a show meeting on July 21, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. Mari Webb reminded those wanting to put cases in the show to see her for appropriate forms. Craig Hamilton thanked Margaret Boras for helping with COPS at Crystal Springs Elementary School. Russ Fisette reminded everyone of the Spaghetti Dinner/Trivia night coming up on July 15, 2016. Tickets are available tonight. Attendees are asked to bring a dessert. The membership was encouraged to check the web site for field trips. The President s Award was given to Larry Turner and Gary Davis for their outstanding service to JGMS. Mari Webb spoke and gave details on the cleaning service recommended by the Board. Pat Herring moved and Barbara Stavely-Schoener seconded that the AS You Like It cleaning service be hired. Discussion followed, motion carried. Social Concerns: Linda Weinstein reported that a card was sent to Robert Thompson, and that Debbie Ritter s father passed away. Parking in not allowed in the Day Care parking lot. They have a new owner and she has requested that we not park there. Show and Tell: Items were presented by Bill Poland, Kathleen Bigg, Mari Webb, Linda Weinstein, Gerri O Meara, Ed Price, Lisa Royal, Mary McCormack, Dixie Murphy, Karen Boger, Eero Mauerman, Cecelia Stanley and Jason Hamilton. Sherry Jones spoke about the JGMS cookbook. The cookbook needs to be ready by the Show in September. Recipes must be typed and emailed to Sherry to be included. Anne Acker will head the nominating committee for next year s officers. Program presented by Dr. Mike Reynolds on the upcoming solar eclipse. Meeting adjourned.
