With These Hands by Mark DeYmaz (from 2017 Father s Day sermon) With these hands, I gently cradled this child, Held him close to my heart, Nursed his wounds and calmed her fears, Held the books that I would read And rock this child fast asleep. With these hands, I made his lunches And drove the car that carried her to school; Snapped endless pictures, wrapped countless gifts, Then did my best to assemble those gifts. Combed his hair and wiped her tear, Let her know that I was near To nurse his wounds and heal her heart When it would break. With these hands, I made mistakes, And with these hands, I prayed and prayed and prayed. These hands are feeble, these hands are worn, These hands can no longer calm the storms; These hands have done all they can do; These hands now release this child, my child, To You. For Your hands are able, Your hands are strong, Your hands alone can calm the storms. Your hands will continue to do What they are so gifted to do, To shape his life and make her new. Into Your hands receive this child, For my child I now give back to You. In the strong name of Jesus, And with all my heart I pray, Amen.
STEPHEN MINISTRIES SPEAKER SERIES We need to have preparations made to make life transitions easier for family members. Our speaker in July is a lawyer from KC Elder Law. She will give us information about wills, power of attorney, transition paperwork and other topics that will help our families with life transitions. There will be a question and answer time and potential for a second gathering on this topic in the fall. Plan to attend Tuesday, July 25 th at 7:00 PM in the Maranatha Classroom. If you have questions, please call Vickie Hammons at (913)631-8959 or e-mail at jvhammons@everestkc.net. PROJECT PATRICIA WORK DAY Project Patricia is an organization that provides feminine products to girls and women in South Africa. Our United Methodist Women unit will be sponsoring a work day to make some of these products that will be sent to South Africa for distribution. The work day is scheduled for Thursday, July 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Used sheets, blankets, towels, and fabric scraps (at least 10 square) will be needed to make the products. Sewing machines, sergers, sharp scissors, and lots of helpers will also be needed. Please plan to join us for this very worthwhile project. In addition we are collecting underwear for the girls and women in Africa, size 14 girls or size 5 women. Please bring your donations to the church office. Bear with one another in love. It came from the scripture in Pastor Shane s sermon this past Sunday. When he said it in the 11 o clock service I wondered if I could use it in my Prayer Notes. How can we bear with one another in love in prayer? Isn t love something we do in person? I thought about it. Praying for another is an act of love. But sometimes we might end up praying for the wrong thing. If you love someone, and you find yourself praying for them to change, so they can be happier, or so you can be happier, is that really love? Years ago, in a devotion book titled, God Calling, I came across this message from the Lord in one of the daily devotions (this is a book written by two British women, friends, who listened to God carefully and wrote down what they heard). God said that instead of praying for someone to change, we should pray instead that God would bless them. God s reason? You don t know what that person really needs and I do. Because I see their heart. Therefore, the most effectual prayer for another person is that God will bless them. This is especially true about those whom we love and live closely with, whose habits and personalities can often become tiresome, or who we worry about because they aren t as close to God, or as understanding, as we think they should be. Remember that the next time you pray for a loved one. Ask God to bless them, as only God knows how. It s a simple prayer. And God will hear, and answer. It is what God wants to do.
