I AM Kindness and mercy are what the enslaved people of Israel needed, and they came in the form of deliverance. They came through a leader, Moses, who was once plucked from the Nile River and was now herding his father-in-law s sheep in the land of Goshen. The bush that burned but was not consumed shows us that God is inexhaustible mystery. Moses awe and deference are mixed with a touching conversational tone as he seeks to learn God s name. And God sweetly responds. The somewhat abstract I AM distinguishes the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob from the minor gods in the territory who are not. They are helpless, powerless, and useless. Moses is to step out into an amazing future, and God will be there with outstretched arm. Just go and see, God seems to say. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. As Lent approaches, are you wondering how you can draw closer to our Lord and more fully understand His sacrifice for us? Do you have an extra 45 minutes this Lent to hear something that could be life changing for you? The Lighthouse Catholic Media CDs are a great way to deepen your faith as we head into these 40 days leading up to Holy Week. This month, we'll be featuring the following CDs: My Beloved Son: Meditations for Lent; Bishop Robert Barron gives 5 sermons on topics to help us cultivate the spiritual discipline we should all strive for during Lent. The Passion of Christ in Light of the Holy Shroud of Turin; In this fascinating CD, Father Francis Peffley presents the new medical and scientific evidence for the Shroud's authenticity. You will never think about what our Lord suffered in His Passion the same way again. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist; Dr. Brant Pitre explains the connection between the Jewish Passover and the Last Supper and, ultimately, the meaning of the Eucharist. The Fourth Cup; Dr. Scott Hahn explains how Christ's sacrifice on the cross fulfills the fourth cup used in the Jewish Passover as he draws a symbolic parallel between the Last Supper and what happened on Calvary. The Seven Last Sayings of Christ; Dr. Scott Hahn shows us the deeper significance of our Lord's carefully chosen words from the cross. Look for more in-depth reviews of these titles in the bulletin in the coming weeks...and be sure to stop by the kiosk for these and many other great CDs.
