Death records Volumes 1-3 1882-1928 for Washington Co, Indiana report Ambrose s mother to be Mary Telle. Other incidental historical data says she ran the hotel with him. There is no logical explanation as to who this woman was, and no data that I could find to back it up. James E. Bolding, Obituaries, Selected Newspapers of Washington County, Indiana, 26 Jul 1882, "Last Sunday evening, [July 23] after several weeks illness, Ambrose Telle, one of the oldest citizens of our town, breathed his last. His health had been failing for some time, and a severe attack of flux some ten days since got him down so low that it was impossible for him to recover. He was a shoemaker by trade, several years since having conducted a very successful business here, but for the past twenty years had run a hotel, and always had the reputation of keeping a first class house. His remains were interred by the Masonic fraternity Monday afternoon." 1900 Census: Washington County, Indiana, Salem. Widowed sister Harriet is living with Albert. 1910 Census: Washington County, Indiana, Salem. Albert and widowed sister Harriet are living together. 1920 Census: Washington County, Indiana, Salem. Albert and widowed sisters Harriet and Mary lived together. The obituary of Albert Telle states that his sister Harriet cared for him for many years, that he was a shut in for most of his illness, that he never married, and that he loved the outdoors. I have searched many records in vain looking for indication that Harriett Cooley and her sister-in-law Emaline Cooley were related. There were many Cooley families in Salem. I can find Harriett s ancestry, but not Emaline s. An 1893 letter from G. W. Telle to Martha Telle Cannon indicates they might be related by marriage, but I could never confirm this. 119

Mary Wright Fultz b 1839 d 30 June 1890 age 74 first wife of George, dau of Levi and Sarah Wright. James E. Bolding, Selected Newspapers of Washington County, Indiana, 977.222V4b. [History of Washington County, 1884] -- George Fultz was a native of Virginia, and was born in 1825 and died April 3, 1901. In 1826 he came with his parents to Salem, Indiana. He has been engaged in various occupations through life. He at one time attended his farm of 215 acres, east of Salem. He followed steamboating and distilling for a time; ran the first dray in Salem, and for about thirteen years conducted the Salem Democrat with ability and success. He also operated a wagon and carriage manufactory and livery stable. For a number of years he served as Deputy County Sheriff, and so acceptably did he fill the position that he was twice elected as principal to that office. Upon his retirement from public life he has been actively engaged in agricultural pursuits. Mr. Fultz was one of the enterprising and energetic men of the county; was a staunch Democrat in politics, and a member of the I.O.O.F. He was married in 1858 to Miss Mary Wright, daughter of Levi and Sarah Wright, of Washington County. Mary Wright Fultz died July 13, 1947 (sic) and George married Mary Telle, daughter of Ambrose Telle and Harriet Cooley who survives. [The Republican leader, July 4, 1890] Mary Wright Fultz, wife of George Fultz, was born March 18th, 1816, died July 30th, 1890, at her home near Canton, aged 74 years, 3 months and 11 days. She was married to George Fultz in June 1837(sic). She leaves one brother, two sisters and a husband to lament their loss. She was the daughter of Levi and Sarah Wright, her father having been dead 30 years and her mother 56. They were the parents of 8 children, three of whom are living. They emigrated from North Carolina about the year 1810 and settled on the old homestead. The family are all buried in the family grave yard except the oldest son, who is laid away in Kansas.... There is confusion about the birth date of Mary Wright. Since the 1870 Washington Township Census shows her age to be 51, I chose to go with the earlier date. 1910 Census: Washington County, Indiana, Salem. Mary Fultz was enumerated as the head of a household in Salem, age 67, a widow, with her sister Harriet Lindsay and brother Albert Telle living with her. She had no children. DAR Birth, Marriage, Death Dates of Residents of Washington & Orange Counties, Indiana. Marriage of Mary E. Telle was performed by Geo. W. Telle. George was a farmer from Virginia, age 64, when he married Mary. He was the son of John Fultz and Sarah Persinger. 120
