VBS Registration forms deadline is July 22nd! ST. JA MES AND ST. PAUL S L UTHERAN CHURC HES 24 months. 730 days. 17,520 hours. 1,051, 200 minutes. 63,072,000 seconds. As I sit back and look at my first two years of ministry here at St. James and St. Paul s, I see some areas where we have grown together and other areas where we continue to have needs. Before I arrived here two years ago, the congregation voted to not have VBS. But when I visited that June, several people asked if we could well, that was an obvious answer! We had a one-day VBS with 35 kids hearing the message of Jesus. Just a year later, after months and months of planning, we had 35 kids for a week-long VBS, along with almost two dozen volunteers. What a joy that was to see! Ministry was happening in this place! We were being the church and living out our lives as disciples during that week. Plans are well under way for this year s VBS I am praying for more kids and more volunteers than last year! I have seen growth in the River s Edge What can happen in two years? St. Paul s News and Notes Greetings! I hope you re enjoying summer and your home/ yard projects, but also making time for some of the fun things like parades, picnics, family reunions and fishing! Here at St. Paul s we ve been working on our projects: the new flower area of our kids: we are getting our teenagers out in service to the congregation and community. What a blessing it is to see our young people begin to see once again that living out their faith is actually fun! Continue to pray for our young people as we work to bring them back into the fold, where they can receive God s eternal blessings. At St. Paul s, we have enjoyed two successful weekends of Hobby Days, with another one planned in the future. We are talking about some family nights, which will include movies and food. We ve also seen two successful years of Wednesday soup luncheons during the winters. Many lives have been touched over the last two years, including my own. I have been with you during celebrations, as well as sorrows. We ve said see ya later to several of our brothers and sisters who have gone to their heavenly rest. I have walked with some of you during hospital stays; I have prayed with you and for you. beds turned out wonderful, the ramp is re-carpeted and if you get down this way check out our sign on Hwy G. It got a facelift and proudly points the way to our precious country church! July 2012 Volume 1, Issue 7 During the last two years, though, I have been watching, learning, and coming to realize the things on which we need to work together as a parish. Two congregations, one pastor. I hope to see joint events in the future. We all need to continue to grow as disciples and as stewards. There are also some deep spiritual needs that will be addressed, including our life of stewardship - both as a congregation and as individuals. We need to continue to work together in our life together in a life forgiven for a life of ministry to the community around us. We need to continue to work on where our priorities are as well are they at the campground, cottage, farm, athletic field, classroom etc.? Or are they at church and with our Savior Jesus? Where should our priorities be? Two years a lot can happen in two years! I continue to pray that we can work together for the common good and bring healing to a division that has been made. How is your garden doing! Jim is weeding ours while I am working on this article...which seems to be taking longer for some reason! The following is an oldie but a goodie and I hope you will enjoy it. (Cont. on Page 2)
River s Edge Volume 1, Issue 7 Page 2 Preschool News Introducing the Preschool Class of 2012! Graduation was a huge success. I wish all these wonderful youngsters futures full of success and happiness. Two will be coming back next year to continue their education in God s house. It s strange but I miss the children already! I do enjoy sleeping in but I will look forward to next fall when we begin again to learn our ABC s and 123 s and about how much God loves us and takes care of us. I will return again in September with more fun filled fact s about our fantastic future generation. God s Blessings Sandy, Adam B., Adam S., Addison, Alliyah, Annika, Carson, Dayton, Emma, Isabella, Josiah and Stephanie. FIRING UP THE YOUTH Summer is here and our St. James Youth Group is on the move as well. We have done several Work for Credit projects and the donation received have been put in each youth s account to help offset expenses for their trip to the National Youth Gathering in 2013. Our next project is to have a Brat Fry Saturday, July 14 th in front of True Value Hardware on Main St. We will be serving Brats, Hot Dogs, Chips and Soda from 10am till 2pm. The funds raised again will be used to support those planning on going on the trip to San Antonio. We are also planning on going on a Camping and Canoe Trip later this summer. Youth should watch the Youth Bulletin Board as well as Sunday Bulletins to let them know of date and specifics in the very near future. Five youth and three adults are presently planning on attending the National Youth Gathering in 2013 and have made the commitment. That is fantastic! Please support them in their endeavors for earning money to help defray the costs. It is very costly and each is responsible for a major portion of their own expenses. These fundraisers will help all of them. Terry & Linda Schmidt, Youth Leaders St. Paul News Cont. For the Garden of your Daily Living plant three rows of peas: Peace of mind, Peace of heart and Peace of soul. Plant four rows of Squash: Squash gossip, Squash indifference, Squash grumbling and Squash selfishness. Plant four rows of lettuce: Lettuce be faithful, Lettuce be kind, Lettuce be patient and Lettuce help one another. To conclude your garden you must have thyme: Thyme for God, Thyme for each other, Thyme for family and Thyme for friends. Water freely with patience and cultivate with love. There will be a good produce in your garden if you remember that you reap what you sow! God Bless, Deb

This is the second of our articles about the leadership teams of the church. This month the focus is on the Board of Trustees. Who are they and what do they do? The Board of Trustees is the property and financial board of the congregation. They are also the legal representatives of the congregation. The Board of Trustees are responsible for the upkeep of the building and grounds. With that in mind, there is a list in the kitchen where one can write down an issue that needs to be resolved. Feel free to contact your Trustees if you have any questions regarding the building and grounds or suggestions for work that needs to be done. Your current Trustees are: Kelly Jump, Loretta Saunders, Dave Hess, and Milton Smith.
