1 September 2015 Volume 5, Issue 9 Presbyterian Voice First Presbyterian Church 210 N. Jeffreys Pleasant Hill, MO 64080 Inside this issue: God is Calling - Are You Listening? Phyllis Hook, Elder Elder of the Month 1 Lectionary/Bible 2 August was my time to help lead the church worship service. What an honor to be elder for August, but also, what a nervous time for me. How in the world could I be nervous with all your friendly faces looking back at me as I said, Good morning. I knew I would not be booed. I loved those faces and had felt love come back to me so many times as we passed the Peace of Christ. But, that first Sunday, I was nervous, hoping I would not let anyone down. I thought about Moses and how he tried to talk God out of sending him to do His work. Moses told God that he was slow of speech and really wanted God to send someone else. Well, you know God, He would not take no for an answer, so Moses accepted the call. I knew I needed to do this and overcome any feelings of being unworthy. And, how you helped me that first Sunday as you said You are doing great, as I went among you to pass the Peace of Christ. Those words gave me confidence and by the next Sunday, my nerves had settled down. I am so grateful to be part of this church and grateful for a pastor who nudges us to be better and to shine forth the Christ light within us. Birthdays/Ann. 2 Openers/Greeter/Elder 2 Food Pantry 2 New Member 2 Calendar 3 Shepherds 4 Relationship team 4 Partnership of Prayer 4 The Story, Bible Study 5 Lay Clergy Devotions 5 Communion Sunday 5 Fellowship Dinner 5 Prayer Requests 5 Staff/hours/Contact 6 Our church has challenges, but we will not let them defeat us. I, for one, will never give up when things get a little tough. After all, look who is standing with us. Jesus, who will always be there for all those times when we feel unworthy, defeated or loosing hope. I know He stood with me and continues to whisper in my ear, You are worthy, I love you, Love each other. That is my prayer for this church, that we love one another as Jesus loves us. Listen, He is there whispering in your ear. We will shine forth that love to others and do the work of Jesus Christ. We trust you, Jesus. Phyllis
