George Washington was our country s 1st president, he is known as the Father of our Country. Abraham Lincoln was our country s 16th president and he is best known as helping end slavery in the United States. Our country has had 44 presidents and our current president, Donald Trump is number 45. This holiday is a great time to celebrate our nations leaders!

George Washington s Cherry Tree Supplies: one copy of tree template for child, eight cherries template, one copy of poem, blue construction paper and red paint, scissors and glue 1. Have students cut out their tree template and eight cherries. 2. Then students glue the tree to a blue piece of construction paper and glue the white cherries on the top part of the tree. 3. Next students dip their thumbs in red paint and put one thumb print on each cherry. 4. Lastly students glue the poem at the bottom of the blue construction paper.
The Legend of the Cherry Tree When George was just a little boy, he got a new hatchet that brought him much joy. But with that hatchet, he cut down his daddy s cherry tree, oh my! And when he got caught he said, I cannot tell a lie! His daddy was so proud of the truth he told and said to little George, You ll grow up to be strong and bold! And we understand just what his daddy meant, George Washington grew up and became the first president! Abraham Lincoln s Log cabin Supplies: one copy of log cabin template, handful of popsicle sticks, red construction paper, one copy of poem 1. Have students cut out their log cabin templates 2. Then students build the base of the log cabin by gluing popsicle sticks to a piece of red construction paper. 3. After the base of the log cabin is built, students glue on the roof, door and window from the template. 4. Lastly, students glue the poem at the bottom of the red construction paper.

He loved to learn and studied hard to be the best he could be And it sure paid off, because he was the leader of our country!
