First Look TM Curriculum for Preschoolers - 4 s & 5 s Rooms June 3, 2018 Bible Story Focus: The Bible shows me the way. The Bible Shows the Way Psalm 119:105 Memory Verse: Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Psalm 25:4, NLT Key Question: What tells you which way to go? Bottom Line: The Bible tells me which way to go. Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (8:45-9:15/ 10:40-11:00) Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your children arrive. Let one teacher lead activities while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. 1. Follow the Leader Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn What You Need: A flashlight Before the Activity: Gather the children to line up single file in an open area of the room. Dim the lights if possible. Today, I thought it would be fun to play Follow the Leader. Do you see my handy flashlight? (Hold up flashlight.) I m going to shine this light to show us the way to go. Follow me! Lead the children all the way around the room and then select another child as the leader. Continue selecting new leaders for each round as long as time and interest allow. After the Activity: Great job, everyone! You were great leaders and great followers. I m so glad we had this light to show us the way to go. In our Bible story today, we ll find out how the Bible always shows us where to go. I can t wait for you to hear it. Transition Idea: Move to Worship and Story by continuing to lead the children with the flashlight all the way to your Large Group space. 2. Four Corners What You Need: Colored construction paper (red, yellow, green, and blue; 2 of each color), square tissue box, wall tape 1

BINS:create a colored die for the children to roll. Cover an empty tissue box by adhering one color of construction paper to each side of the tissue box with tape or glue.) Before the Activity: Hey, friends! Do you see the different colors I ve hung up in the corners of the room? (Point.) Raise your hand and tell me one color you see. (Call on different children to name the four colors.) Awesome! Yes, I see red, yellow, green, and blue and those same colors are here on this die too. Each of you will have a chance to roll the die. The color it lands on will tell us where to go. So, when the die is rolled, let s all travel to that corner of the room. When we get there, I ll give you an action to perform. Are you ready? Once the children are in that corner, call out an action for them to perform from the list below. Jumping jacks March in place Hug your neighbor Give a friend a high-five Knee bends Touch your toes Jog in place Flex your muscles After the Activity: Great job, everyone! The cards told us the way to go! Today, we will learn about how the Bible teaches us the way to go. I can t wait for you to hear all about it. Let s go! Transition Idea: Move to Worship and Story by leading the children to repeat different motions (you can use the same list as above) as you walk to your Large Group space. 3. Light Box What You Need: Light Box Activity Pages, white paper, clear tub with clear lid, battery-operated light source (flashlight), clear tape, thin white paper or tracing paper, and a marker BINS: Place the light source inside the tub and try to secure it with tape so that it is pointing up. Place the lid onto the tub. Place one of the Light Box Activity Pages face up in the middle of the lid. Tape each corner of the page to secure it to the lid. Before the Activity: Turn on the flashlight in the tub and replace the lid. Place a piece of white paper on top of the activity page that is taped to the lid of the bin. We are going to trace special pictures today! 2

During the Activity: We need to have light to see the lines that we are going to trace. (Turn on light box.) Here is the light! Use the markers to trace the lines that you see on the page. I am so glad we have the light to show us the way! Let each child have a turn to trace the activity page. After the Activity: The light showed us where to trace. God shows us the way too! Today in our Bible story, we are going to hear how God shows us what to do and where to go! That is so EXCITING! Transition Idea: Move to Worship and Story by pretending to look for a light as you walk to the story area. Large Group (9:15 9:35/ 11:00 11:20) - Bring children to room H for singing, offering and story. Remember that you are responsible for crowd control, so seat your children strategically! If you haven t taken attendance, please do so now. s: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (9:35-10:00/11:20-11:45) These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. Pick several to lead your class through, allowing for time at the end to complete the Journal/ Prayer section. 1. Memory Verse with Motions Hear from God Memory Verse Review What You Need: No supplies needed Before the Activity: I am going to say our new memory verse today. Everyone watch me! Show me the right path (hands up like goggles), O LORD (point up); point out the road (point out and down) for me to follow (march). Psalm 25:4, NLT (Hold out hands like a book.) During the Activity: Now let's do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the verse with motions several times together.) 3

After the Activity: Good job! Our memory verse tells us that God shows us where to go! What tells you which way to go? [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go! 2. Follow the Signs Talk About God Bible Story Review What You Need: Bible Symbol 2 and Parent Activity Option 2 Activity Pages, Road sign examples, paper plates (1 per child), painter s sticks (1 per child), glue, tape Before the Activity: When you re riding in a car, do you ever see signs like these on the side of the road? This red sign is telling a driver to stop. (Talk through a few road signs.) In today s Bible story, we learned that [Bottom Line] the Bible tells me which way to go, kind of like a road sign. I m going to help you make your own sign with this picture of the Bible (hold up a Bible Symbol ) to remind us that the Bible tells us which way to go. During the Activity: I have a Bible picture and a stick for each of you. Your job is to glue your Bible picture to one side of the paper plate and the activity instructions to the other side. Then we ll attach the plate to the stick. I ll come around and help anyone who needs it. Once everyone has their Bible Symbol road sign made: Your signs look amazing! Now lay your sign in front of you. We re going to trace the letters with our finger. Say the letters with me while we trace them. B. I. B. L. E. Bible! Let s do that again. B. I. B. L. E. Bible! Good job! You can keep tracing your letters and use these crayons to color your sign. Now you have a sign to help you remember that [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go. What tells you which way to go? [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go! 3. Dance Party Live for God Application Activity What You Need: A music player and the monthly song, hand motions for the song, Motions Activity Page, 4

Before the Activity: We re learning an awesome song this month! Let s dance and sing together. Play the monthly song and review the motions with the children. After the Activity: Whew, I m danced out, but that was super fun! I m so glad that God gave us the Bible, His Word, to show us where to go! What tells you which way to go? [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go. That s right! Nice dance moves, everyone! 4. Flashlight Live for God Application Activity What You Need: Flashlight Activity Page, yellow cardstock or construction paper, empty toilet paper tubes (1 per child), construction paper, stickers, and clear tape BINS: cut Flashlight activity page on the dotted lines. Cut the construction paper to cover the toilet paper rolls. Wrap the paper around the rolls and secure with the tape. Before the Activity: The Bible shows the way that God wants us to go! It is like a light! During the Activity: We are going to make a flashlight that we can take home and tell our families that the Bible is like a flashlight. It shows us where to go! (Give each child a tube and a cutout.) Now place this end (point to long end of the cutout) inside the tube (demonstrate). The triangle will hang out to be our light. Be sure the triangle part of the cutout is sticking out of the tube to look like a light beam. Secure the other end of the cutout to the inside of the tube on the other end. Children can decorate the tube with stickers if desired. After the Activity: Great job! Your flashlights look awesome! The Bible is just like a light and can show us where to go. What tells you which way to go? [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go! Journal/ Prayer Time (5 minutes) Journal/ Prayer time is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. What You Need: Memory Verse Card paper clipped in your Bible at Psalm 25:4, journal, fun-shaped pen, Bible Symbol Sticker Activity Page, 5

SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s time! Let s pretend we re riding our favorite bike to our spot. First we need to put on our helmets. (Pretend to put on a helmet.) Okay, now we re ready. Hop on your bikes and follow me! (Pretend to ride bikes to your spot.) We made it! That was fun! We can take off our helmets and park our bikes. (Pretend to take off your helmet and park your bike.) Now let s sit down and talk about today s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me! Our Bible story today was about the BIBLE! (Hold a Bible up.) This is a Bible. Can you say, Bible with me? CHILREN and SGL: Bible! (Lay the Bible open in front of the children.) SGL: Good job! The Bible has God s words in it. That means all of these words are true. God gave us the Bible because He loves us. The Bible is one of the ways God tells us which way to go. What tells you which way to go? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go. SGL: Yes! [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go. That s why the Bible verse we are learning says this. (Turn the pages to the memory verse.) Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow, Psalm 25:4. Did you hear that? This verse is asking God to tell us which way to go. And when we read the Bible, it tells us which way to go. What tells you which way to go? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] The Bible tells me which way to go. SGL: Let s stand up and say our new Bible verse together with the motions. Just say what I say and do what I do. 6

CHILDREN and SGL: Show me the right path (hands up like goggles), O LORD (point up); point out the road (point out and down) for me to follow (march), Psalm 25:4. (Hold out hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with motions a few times.) SGL: We are on our way to learning a new Bible verse! High fives for everyone! (Give each child a high five.) Sit back down with me so we can write in our prayer journal. (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.) I have a special sticker to put in our journal today. (Hold up the Bible Symbol Sticker. ) This is our Bible picture that reminds us that [Bottom Line] the Bible tells me which way to go. We re going to put this sticker in our journal right here. (Place the sticker in the journal.) Now I am going to write, The Bible tells which way to go and make a list of everyone s name. Listen for your name as I read what I write. When you hear your name, raise your hand. (Write the sentence, The Bible tells which way to go. As you write each child s name under the sentence say, The Bible tells [child s name] which way to go. Remember to print the words so the children can recognize their names and the letters.) The Bible tells [child s name] which way to go. (Repeat with each child s name). And the Bible tells [your name] which way to go. There! All of your names are in our journal. Let s pray and ask God to help us listen to what the Bible says so we will know the way to go. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) Prayer SGL: Dear God, thank You for the Bible. Thank You for loving us and teaching us the way to go. I pray You will help (name each child) understand and remember Your words and follow what You say. We love You, God! In Jesus name, amen. 7
