The Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola A ROMAN CATHOLIC C OMMUNITY INSPIRED BY THE TRADITION OF ST. IGNATIUS, S T. HEDWIG AND S T. MARY'S ANNUNCIATION PARISHES. e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, W especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ s work, we embrace our commitment to God s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. Together we extend Christ s hospitality to others and light the path of peace for generations to come. Knowing God is more important than knowing about God. Karl Rahner, S.J.

SEMINARIAN NEWS We are delighted to announce that one of our parishioners has been accepted into the Priesthood Formation Program for the Diocese of Scranton. Robert J. Dogal will begin studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Douglaston, N.Y. He is the son of Michael and Mary Helen Dogal of Kingston. Next weekend, we will welcome seminarian Charles Rennekamp for a two week stay at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish. Charles is from Lake Ariel and will be a college senior at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Douglaston, N.Y. in the fall. Charles is staying for two week periods at various parishes in the diocese so as to become familiar with priestly life as well as different parts of the diocese. Please extend a warm welcome to Charles. FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM As we approach Independence Day, July 4 th, the U.S. Catholic bishops are asking us to celebrate the Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Serve. The theme is a focus on the freedom to serve the poor and vulnerable in accord with human dignity and the Church s teaching. On June 22 nd, the beginning of the Fortnight, we will celebrate the memorial of SS. Thomas More and John Fisher with Evening Prayer at 7 PM. Fr. Alex Roche will speak on the Vatican II document, Dignitatis Humanae, which you are encouraged to read before June 22 nd. It can be found in the Documents of Vatican II or online. FORMATION FOR SERVANT LEADERSHIP Bishop Bambera has announced a new diocesan initiative for lay ministry formation and all in the diocese are encouraged to participate. The program design includes components for parish-based adult faith formation, a structured program for parish leaders who desire to pursue a Diocesan Certificate in Lay Ministry, resources for ongoing academic and pastoral formation in lay ministry, and assistance with parish mission retreats. For more information and to enroll, please go to www.dioceseofscranton.org. and view Formation for Servant Leadership: Growing in Faith Together. PETER S PENCE COLLECTION - JUNE 28TH & 29TH The Peter s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. This is an opportunity to join with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please be generous. In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Sunday Tithe $14,179.30 Communication s Campaign $1,013.70 Total $15,190.00 This Week s Expenses $17,640.23 GREETERS The Worship Commission is trying to enhance the feeling of welcome to all who enter our Church. We are looking for persons who will greet the people as they arrive for Mass. We hope to create a number of groups who will rotate during the year. Persons also involved in other ministries are also welcome to be part of this new endeavor. The summer group would be part of this ministry from the remainder of June to the end of August. If interested, please call the rectory and leave your name and telephone number. Someone will return your call. Parishioners of all ages are welcome to participate. STATUS OF ST. MARY S ANNUNCIATION It is now five years since the closing of St. Mary s Annunciation. It has been actively on the real estate market for three years, with only limited interest in the houses. This has become a drain on resources and staff, especially since vandalism has begun. After consultation with the Diocesan Office of Property and Risk Management, the Finance Council, and the Parish Pastoral Council, the difficult decision to raze the church building has been reached. It would have been better if a use for the church could have been found, but there is no market for the church building. In coming weeks, tests and surveys will be made as well as a determination for the project start date. Don t forget! Food Collection each and every weekend at the vestibules of Church and Chapel.
