CWL NEWS The Catholic Women s League Executive Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 16 th at 2 pm in the Parish Hall. Love is all around Love changes everything. Fall in love and watch the world brim with passion, color, and longing that wasn t there yesterday. Often we plod along in search of our daily bread until home and family, God and community, make our labor a noble sacrifice. Our secular celebrations of Valentine s Day and World Marriage Day converge today with another love story: that of Jesus for the great mission he was about to undertake for the sake of his Father and the creation he so loved. Make a joyful sacrifice in love today. It is written, One does not live on bread alone. "Reprinted with permission from PrepareTheWord.com" FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT If you treat the Sabbath as sacred and do not pursue your own interests on that day Then you will find the joy that comes from serving the Lord Isaiah 58.13,14 Pray: Father, I get caught on the hectic treadmill of life. I like getting things done. Slowing down is not an option. I may not realize it now, but it is unhealthy. You gave us six days to work; I know that should be enough, but I like to squeeze in one more task. Worst of all, so often I get so busy that I don t even have time to worship you. When I think about it, it sounds crazy. Help me get my priorities right. Let me enjoy and relax each Sunday that you give me. Amen. Act: Determine today that Sunday will be a day of rest and a day to attend church. written by Fr. Thomas J. Connery, Taking Lent to Heart Best Lent Ever is a FREE email program that takes participants on a 40-day spiritual journey to encounter Jesus and themselves in a deeply personal way. Together we will journey through Lent with people whose lives are being changed with your support. Please read the Minimagazine, part of your bulletin today. This is your pilgrimage guide. In Week 1 we meet Adonis Medjine from Haiti. A survivor of the 2010 earthquake, she is benefitting from a social enterprise project to raise chickens. I have a husband and two children. Thanks to this job and the wages I receive, I can take care of my family, send my children to school and complete a few projects.

February 14, 2016 First Sunday of Lent The reading from Deuteronomy is a reminder of God s fidelity to the Hebrew people, and their responsibility to offer the first fruits of their labors back to the Lord. In Romans, Paul teaches the people to confess that Jesus is Lord, and to be saved. In the Gospel of Luke, the devil tempts Jesus in the desert. Throughout our Judeo-Christian history, people have cried out to God for help, and the Lord has protected us, provided for us, and helped us to grow into a mature relationship with him. We know, as Jesus knows, that we are to call upon the Lord for help, but not to test him, as the devil sometimes tempts us to do.
