I met with our new Pastor Father Valentine, congratulated him on his appointment, and thanked him for choosing to shepherd us here at St. Pius X. Father Valentine is a third degree Knight but with all the responsibilities of being Pastor and the work ahead for him, he has asked Father Xavier to be our Chaplain. We are happy to welcome Father Xavier as our Chaplain and Father has already attended our meetings, events, and provided us with his spiritual guidance. The Knights along with Faith Formation sponsored a Meet and Greet for Father Valentine on July 21 after the 10:30AM Mass. The event was well attended; we had over 130 parishioners who met our new Pastor. Special thanks go out to Gene Robinson who always does an outstanding job in preparing and buying the food and drink. Many brothers were on hand to help Lou Imbroto, Steve Corio, Pete Perone, Artie Venezia, Anthony Corrente, Sal Manziello, Bill Bullwinkel, Ralph Plaisance, and Nick Gargiulo. Thanks to all who made Father Valentine feel welcome in our parish. Thank-you to Cora and Faith Formation for adding those special touches that made the event memorable. The Knights Family Picnic was held on August 11, at POB Community Park, there were 90 people who attended. The weather was perfect, the food delicious, and the enjoyment playing the various games was enjoyed by young and old alike. All of our priests were in attendance assisting in the games and raffles. Thank you to Fathers Valentine, Xavier, Chux, and Simon for their help and participation. Our Chairmen, Anthony Corrente and Bill Bullwinkel, did an outstanding job in preparing and buying all the food. Our DGK Ray Alexander organized the different games the children and adults enjoyed playing. Dom Sala was the big winner, of the day at the Race Game. After collecting his winnings, Dom mentioned the first round is on him at our next social meeting. We invited our Alter Servers and their families as a Thank you for their service to our Parish. The day would not have been such a great success without the efforts of Gene Robinson, DD James Albert, FDD Al Valenti, Artie Venezia, Dom Sala, Nick Gargiulo, Steve Corio, and Pete Perone. Our Parish and the Knights owe Brother Tom Hoefling, a big Thank You for 10 years of service as Head Usher. Tom made a tough job look easy as he recruited new ushers, prepared for Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, First Holy Communion, and Holy Days of Obligation Masses. Tom did an excellent job and we appreciate his efforts. Recording Secretary Charlie Josten has stepped up and taken over as Head Usher. We thank Charlie and I ask all Brothers to assist Charlie, as we did Tom, for this most important ministry. Our Installation of Officers was held August 17. Worthy DD James Albert and his Installation Team did an outstanding job. Our Pastor Father Valentine jeweled our new Chaplain Father Xavier. The Officers look forward to a prosperous year for our Council. The Testimonial Dinner for PGK Phil Saglimbene is September 8, 7:PM at Mr. Joes Restaurant. Please see newsletter for details, let us give Phil a Testimonial to remember so respond today if you will be attending, wives are welcome. Fraternally, Grand Knight Neil DeRosa Page 1

13th District District Deputy Jim Albert Treasurer to the Board It was my honor and pleasure to install the Officers of the St. Pius X Council #10332 again. It was a most solemn and enjoyable event. The New Grand Knight Neil DeRosa was a unanimous choice for this most important leadership role. His speech at the installation was to inspire and motivate. Neil has already started new and interesting ideas for our Council. Also, he has jump started our recruitment efforts by bringing into the Council members of his immediate family. I look forward to working with Neil and all the Officers of St. Pius X Council. Fr. Valentine presented Fr. Xavier with the Chaplain s Jewel and we thanked both for coming to participate in the event. PSD Sal Restivo will be honored with a Testimonial on October 5th at O Connell Council in Oceanside, N.Y. I hope some of you can find the time to come out and pay your respects to Nassau s own. I am told that people from all over N.Y. state will be in attendance. When Sal came in as our State Deputy he was ambushed by hurricane Irene. Upstate was devastated and he responded immediately. When Sandy ravaged our area he responded again. We were very fortunate to have Sal with so many people hurting due to the storm. He balanced the N.Y. State Council budget and there is now a surplus. Join Us! Also, to be honored is our Past Grand Knight Phil Saglimbene. On September 8th we will come together to thank and honor Phil for his good work these past (2) years. Please come and join us! Father Xavier lakra St. Pius X R.C. Church Brothers All I am grateful to Pastor Valentine Rebello and Grand Knight Neil DeRosa for giving me an opportunity to be the Chaplain of St. Pius X Council in the Knights of Columbus. My 1st Degree prayerful ceremony is still fresh in my mind which invokes me to write a few lines on family prayer. A family is an interpersonal relationship of husband, wife, and children. It is the strongest bond in human society. Without the experience of the presence of God a family is not complete. A family always needs the guidance support and presence of God in their life and to make God a member of their family. They have to have an interpersonal relationship with him through dialogue or prayer. Only through deep personal faith, unity, and prayer the bond of love can be strengthened. As prayer is the source of spiritual strength in the family, all the members of the family gather together in the evening every day, keep themselves away from the work and through bible reading, reflection, meditation, thanksgiving, petition, rosary, and devotion to Saints can they come in deep union with God and the family. In the life of Abraham, Moses, the Prophets, and in the life of the Saints prayer played a prominent role in their salvation. They became the role model for future generations. As a human person Jesus himself prayed each day to get the spiritual power from the Father to conquer the evil of the world. Living in this world, to live the life of Jesus we too need to pray. In the life of the Knights of Columbus we have some principles to execute: To bring unity to the Fraternal Order or in the church a family prayer is a basic source, as we pray together we are united. In prayer we get enlightenment, we know our situation, our relationship with others, strengthened in faith. It is practiced in the charity by loving, sharing with and serving others, by forgiving, supporting and praying for one another we grow in fraternity. The Knights of Columbus family members are the loyal evangelizers of the word of God through their faith and action. Therefore each family has to be sanctified as God wished and has to renew the face of the earth by our family prayers. Father Xavier Lakra Chaplain and Associate Pastor Page 10
