March 3, 2019 (*Please stand if you are able) 11:00 am Prelude THE APPROACH TO GOD Greeting/Prayer Church Life Opening Chimes I Have Decided to Follow Jesus Handbell Choir Call to Worship Psalm 146 (NRSV) Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. It is he who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD! *Singing Together (Blue) #2 Holy, Holy, Holy! Responsive Prayer of Confession Lord, we come today as people blinded by our own sin. We care about ourselves more than those around us. We are blind to what you are doing in our lives. Give us the eyes to see. Give us the eyes to see what you are doing all round us. Choral Response (Blue) #730 People Need the Lord Word s of Assurance Almighty God, we thank you that you do not leave us as people who cannot see. Just as you spoke light into the darkness, you bring light into our lives. And by your light, we can see. Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens and your faithfulness reaches to the sky.

God s Way for Living For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light - 9 for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. 13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Ministry of Music This We Believe J. Saved by the patient grace of God, we deal patiently with others and together confess our need for grace and forgiveness. Restored in Christ s presence, shaped by his life, this new community lives out the ongoing story of God s reconciling love, announces the new creation, and works for a world of justice and peace. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. *Parting Hymn (Blue) #60 Great Is Thy Faithfulness *Benediction Postlude Following worship please remain in the sanctuary for a Congregational Meeting.

Today s Scripture Mark 10:35-52 (NRSV) James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you. 36 And he said to them, What is it you want me to do for you? 37 And they said to him, Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory. 38 But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 They replied, We are able. Then Jesus said to them, The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared. 41 When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John. 42 So Jesus called them and said to them, You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. 43 But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. 46 They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! 48 Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, Son of David, have mercy on me! 49 Jesus stood still and said, Call him here. And they called the blind man, saying to him, Take heart; get up, he is calling you. 50 So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus said to him, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him, My teacher, let me see again. 52 Jesus said to him, Go; your faith has made you well. Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
