Joseph B. Cavallaro Council # 4884 Knights of Columbus December 2012 S.K. Bill Valentine., Grand Knight Carl Bartolotti, P.G.K., Editor Newsletter@CavallaroCouncil.com WebMaster Enrico Bolognino GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Brother Knights An angel of the Lord appeared to (Joseph) in a dream and said, Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1: 20-21) Blessings to my Brother Knights, Sister Columbiettes, Family and Friends. The blessed season of Christmas is here and we all rejoice in the birth of Jesus in so many wonderful ways. We are blessed to be Catholics, we are blessed to be Brother Knights and Sister Columbiettes, and we are most blessed to be Friends. Our blessings have been in full view the past several weeks as we all helped each other and our communities during the recovery of the recent storms. I am very proud of how each of us in our own special way honored the Knights principle value of Charity, and put into practice what a true Catholic is all about. If you have been personally affected please know that we are here in prayer and assistance. As we embark on this Christmas season please reflect on the fact that true charity starts at home, and through service to others we in turn receive God s graces. Volunteers are needed to assist our Council in wonderful Christmas events including wreath sales, HeartShare parties, and other events. I know I can count on you all to assist in your own special ways. May the light of Christmas shine in all of our hearts, and may we continue to serve God and each other. C olum b ie t te News Dear Sister Columbiettes, Our First Degree could not be held as scheduled due to the fact that our District Deputy Rosemary Morgan suffered much damage from hurricane Sandy and could not be with us. Our prayers are with her for a full recovery of her home, as well as so many of the others victims of his devastating storm. We will keep you informed when we are rescheduling our degree. Starting in December, our business meeting will begin at 7:00PM. After much discussion, majority felt starting earlier and ending earlier in the evening would be more convenient. Therefore, our MONDAY, DECEMBER 10th business meeting will begin at 7:00PM. Hope to see many of my Sisters at Council Chambers. Together with our Brother Knights, our Christmas party is set for SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15th, 7:30 PM. Price is $25.00 per person. Please call Mary Contini at 718-256-2123 or Jo Anne Toigo at 718-376- 8025 for reservations. This should be a joyous and fun evening. Maybe even Santa will visit us! All are invited to enjoy our Christmas celebration. Still a few months away, if you want to mark your calendars, Sunday, March 24, 2013, we will have our memorial mass for deceased Columbiettes. -10 AM mass at St. Athanasius. More information will be available soon. In closing, I want to wish all my Sister Columbiettes and their families a joyous and blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. EVER WONDER... Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'? Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word? Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dish washing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food? Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?! Why don't sheep shrink when it rains? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal? Always Remember 9/11/01 Page 5 of 16
