Dear friends- A Message From Our Pastor I spent two days last week with some family members. They had a vacation rental and invited me to spend an overnight. There were some other friends visiting as well it was a big house and one thing I noticed was the fact that each morning a number of adults disappeared with their laptops to get some work done for their jobs. Three of those people had to leave vacation for a day or two to attend some work related meetings. When the subject of working during vacation came up, they replied that if they did not do some work each day, they would have an overwhelming amount of work to catch up on when vacation was over. We do live in a very busy world. Jobs are demanding these days, and with technology it can be very difficult to really get away from it all. Many medical professionals question whether it is healthy to be under the constant pressure of deadlines. So many children are involved with so many activities that often families eat on the run as they rush from one practice or event to another. Between phone calls, emails, and snail mail, I often wonder where the days go time really flies with all the things that call for our attention. As much as these pressures might not be all that good for our health, this time crunch certainly affects our spiritual lives as well. It s not that people don t want God in their lives, it just seems that so often we are so busy, that time spent in prayer or learning a bit more about our faith or even getting to Mass each week gets squeezed out. One of the great challenges to our parish directors of religious education is to find the time to schedule classes that don t conflict with all the things kids are involved with. I think we all realize that something has to give, but we are really in a dilemma as to how to handle it all. Jesus had only three years for His public ministry. In that time, He had a great deal to accomplish. Even though His time on earth was short, we read time and again in the Gospels that He went off by Himself to a quiet place to pray. I think that example reminds us that time to be with God in prayer, in study, in reflection, at Mass is vitally important to our well being physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We all need to set priorities and make choices. One of the greatest myths is to think that somehow we can do it all or have it all. Lets show others by our example that time spent with God is time well spent and can help us to live full and peace filled lives. Happy summer. Fr. Culloty Pilgrimage to Fatima & Lourdes 2013 Join Fr. Jim Achadinha of Saint Anthony Church in Cambridge for a pilgrimage to Fatima & Lourdes departing next May 26, 2013.
