Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, I hope you are all doing well and having a blessed Lenten season. Once again, this year, SPSL students in grades 5 through 8 participated in the Catholic Math League contest. It is a series of four tests given throughout the year. Our students represented their school very well. Considering that this was the first-time grade 5 participated in this contest they did extremely well as a whole. The top five students all scored above 82% regionally with 5th grader Colin Pierce ranked 17th out of 228 students. Nathan Bluvas took top honors in 6th grade ranking number 31 out of 240 students with the top five students all scoring in the 80th percentile regionally. Our 7th grade students scored so well they took third place as a school with Alex ten Bensel ranking number 4 out of 264 participants! The 8th grade class had ten students scoring in the 80th percentile of all 243 contestants with Evan Martin leading the way. Our algebra group calculated our school into third place behind top scorers Will Brewster and Caleb Hans who ranked in the 96th percentile. Great job students! Our SPSL students were not done with the math related fun as the following SPSL 8th graders qualified to represent our school at the Creighton Prep Math Contest on Saturday March 30: Will Brewster, Aiden Brink, Trevor Gregg, Maggie Morris, Patrick McMahon, and Peter Sullivan. Out of a group of 19 teams made up of 90 students, Will Brewster won an 8th place ribbon, Trevor Gregg closed in on the top quarter, and Patrick McMahon finished in the top half. Congratulations to all of these students for their participation in this challenging and fun competition. St. Pius X/St. Leo School If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old program has a waiting list.) 4 year olds to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then register your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman One of the things I love about reading scripture are the zingers or those wonderful quotes that move our heart to consider our own relationship to God. In today s gospel we hear the story of woman caught in adultery, and the scribes and Pharisee s are trying to catch Jesus speaking against the Law. Jesus lets them stew a little bit and then he answers, Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. BAMM, there is the zinger! Jesus cuts to the hearts of every one ready to stone her and it should cut to our heart. Before we react to other people s sins and mistakes, we must really take an honest look at ourselves before we judge. It is so easy to condemn someone, but our Lord is calling us to forgive them and ourselves. We often blame others or God for our own mistakes and sins, but in reality it is hard for us to admit our sins and ask for His forgiveness. This is what Lent is all about: A time to take a long hard look at ourselves and recognize our own sinfulness. A time in our lives that we need to be focused on Jesus Christ. A time to let our hearts and minds to be open to his love, mercy and forgiveness. In our second reading Paul said, For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him. That always should be our goal, to consider our relationship with Jesus Christ the most important thing in our life. St. Leo Knights of Columbus Welcome to Corey Brandert who joined our Council on March 23. We are grateful for his commitment to service. Please continue to pray for vocations. www.facebook.com/omahaserraclub Come join Father Richard Gielow, CM on April 8-10 at Mary Our Queen Church for their Parish Mission. Each evening mission will begin at 7:00pm. Take time from your busy lives for quiet contemplation with God. This is a time of special grace when God calls us into a deeper relationship with Him, a time for personal growth, a time to listen to God, a time of spiritual refreshment and invigoration. All are welcome to attend, from inactive to very active. Our mission is for all ages and for any stage in life married, single, divorced, separated, widow, etc. We particularly invite those who want to know more about the church today and how it can take an active role in the everyday experiences of work, leisure, family and politics. Each evening there will be a special mass and homily designated to increase our spirituality. A social will following in our Trinity Rooms. Omaha, NE l 09
