CHARITY UNITY FRATERNITY PATRIOTISM THE NEXT COUNCIL MEETING WILL BE MONDAY, MAY 12, 2014 @ 7:00 PM, PIUS X CENTER Dear Brother Knight, Worthy Financial Secretary Phil Capone has advised that Brother Sam Grimone and Brother Bob Gardner have attained Honorary membership with the Knights of Columbus. Congratulations gentlemen and thank you for your many years of service! Thank you! Thank you to all the Brother Knights that have contributed to the success of our council. There are many ways members have helped the council move forward; from participating with Fund Raising Committee activities, as a council office and with the many volunteer hours noted on the annual fraternal survey, to mention just a few. We have a very strong foundation to build on to keep moving forward! Our final activity to fulfill our Service Programs for Star Council is being planned for some time in June. Council 599 plans to hold an end of year cookout for the children, their family members and the staff of St. Bernard s School, hopefully around the final week of the school year. Please look for an announcement on the council website as well as the June newsletter! Volunteers will be needed! Fraternally, Bill McIntyre, Grand Knight Vivat Jesus!

NEWS ACTIVITIES / ANNOUNCEMENTS / COMMITTEES FUND RAISING: Future fund raising efforts include: o Sell Community Calendars with the St. Bernard s School children and perhaps the Scouts. o Selling of hot dogs/hamburgers and drinks at Spencer Boat Works Runabout Rendezvous Boat Show in July. o Selling of hot dogs/hamburgers and drinks in August during the annual Rugby Tournament. IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FUND RAISING ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! THE FUND RAISING COMMITTEE MEETS AT 6:00 PM PRIOR TO MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETINGS. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! MEMBERSHIP/DEGREE SCHEDULE: *As Council 599 did not hold a membership drive with speakers, plans should be made for the fall. UPCOMING DEGREES: First & Second Degrees at Keeseville Council - Thursday, May 15 th @ 7:00 PM Third Degree at Au Sable Forks Council Sunday, May 18 th @ 12:30 PM Fourth Degree on western-side of diocese Sunday, June 8 th (still planning) REMINDER! We have the DVD version of the First Degree Exemplification. We need to be prepared and ready to conduct a degree to avoid any lengthy delay in bringing in new members! Anyone interested in forming the degree team is asked to contact the grand knight. Council 599 conducted the following business at the April 2014 meeting: Approved donations Morality in Media and the Saranac Lake Youth Program. A suggestion was made to place KofC signs on River Street in proximity to the Pius X Center. The cost will be investigated and reported at a future meeting. Also discussed was the suggestion to investigate the cost and purchase of polo or golf style shirts with the KofC emblem for members to wear during fund raising events. Will also be reported at a future meeting. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Fr. Alan Lamica has requested the assistance of the Knights with the sorting and distribution of several donated items he has accumulated. Fr. Al can be reached through the St. Bernard s office. Please consider offering an hour or so of your time! Thank you!

Please also refer to the PRAYER REQUESTS and KNIGHTS IN MEMORIAM areas on the council website! PATRIOTIC DEGREE NEWS Worthy Master of the Fifth District John Miner has announced June 8 th as the tentative date for the next Exemplification of the Fourth Degree, with the location to be determined on the western-side of the diocese. Any Third Degree member that is interested in the Patriotic Degree should contact the Worthy Master or Worthy Faithful Navigator Claude Premo for more information! APRIL 6, 2014 MASSENA COUNCIL Three main events for the Northern Conference (increased attendance is needed at all): - July 26/27 Isle La Motte Pilgrimage - August 3 Prayer Rally in Ogdensburg - September 13 Chapter Ball in Tupper Lake Due to scheduling issue, there will not be a Bishop s Burse dinner this year. Plan is to present Bishop with donations at the Isle La Motte Pilgrimage. Increase in conference dues from $30 to $50. Still money available for Catholic School Matching Funds program. There was a very low attendance at the Conference meeting (<25). Need to increase attendance of council officers. C&B results were better than previous year. Books for coming year will be distributed as soon as possible. Recipients of Chapter Ball donations this year will be Champlain Valley Rite to Life and Watertown Rite to Life sharing 1/3, St. Augustine Academy in Carthage will receive 1/3 and Camp Guggenheim will receive 1/3. Much discussion around the soccer and free throw competitions. Lack of planning the dates for Conference champions. GK McIntyre has been selected to chair a committee to work out scheduling issues. Will be working with brothers from Massena council as well as others throughout the conference. There will no longer be a drawing for the Chapter based on the NY Lottery. It has been determined to be illegal. A raffle will be held in its place (500 tickets at $10 each). A new district map has been established for the conference. All districts will have a District Deputy for the coming year. GK McIntyre will be assuming the DD position for the district consisting of the Bloomingdale, Indian Lake, Port Henry, Saranac Lake, Ticonderoga and Tupper Lake councils. Catholic Men s Group Saturday, May 3 rd @ 8:00 AM Please join Fr. Mark Reilly and men of our parishes on Saturday, May 3 rd for a time of fellowship, prayer, and discussion. Mass in St. Bernard's Chapel at 8 a.m. will be followed by coffee and refreshments, some discussion and prayer. Please contact Fr. Mark Reilly with any questions, or just show up! To those that have not done so, please promptly send in your dues to FS Phil Capone and avoid having to receive ANOTHER Notice! Thank you! Please be sure to visit the council website for up-to-date Information. Updates are frequently made when news/information becomes available. This is a great resource for our council! Please pass along any suggestions and ideas to the grand knight or the council Webmaster, Don Jones.
