Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 24, 2019 FOCUS: Jesus challenges us to act with love. Being a Christian truly following Jesus isn t easy. Today s Gospel is a reminder of that fact. Jesus describes what it means to act with love. He challenges us to do what seems humanly impossible: to love our enemies and forgive those who hurt us. These are not easy tasks! Only with the help of Jesus can we truly do what he commands. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, David does not allow anyone to harm Saul when they have the opportunity to do so, and makes it clear to Saul s troops what he did. In Corinthians, Paul describes Jesus as the second Adam, the spiritual man. Jesus, in the Gospel, explains to his disciples all that the commandment to love entails. REFLECTION: Our behavior is not determined by either a friend, or an enemy. We act the way we do because of the God we worship. God does not hold back forgiveness from those who have previously not been friends with God. Nor does God treat harshly those who have not previously loved God. Our norm is God not society. So we ask ourselves: To whom do I find it most difficult to extend forgiveness? What group of people have I found offensive and ignored? Please keep the sick of our parish in your prayers. Loretta LaBarge Livia Ginobile Baby River Fisher Ritter Diana Lucas Eric Grey Olivia Lutz Carmella Dick Linda Richardson Mary O Donnell Ed Burgoon Mike Montgomery Christopher Browne Clifford Browne Please pray for the souls of all the faithful departed, especially those in our parish. From March 6 through April 14, you are invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You are also invited to stand and peacefully pray during a 40 day vigil outside Planned Parenthood at 2751 Comly Rd. and 1144 Locust St. and the Phila. Women s Center at 777 Appletree St. For more info contact Caroline Guy at 215-342-5065. 4. No condenen y no serán condenados; perdonen y serán perdonados. 5. Den y presten sin esperar cobrar. Su recompensa será grande en el Reino de los cielos. Este pasaje evangélico es una llamada apremiante a una vida cristiana más auténtica.
