PreK Christmas 5: A Light for Revelation Questions to Ask the Kids: How has everybody been doing? How many of you got something for Christmas that you really, really wanted? If you did not get what you wanted did it make you sad? What if there was something you wanted and you did not get it for 10 years? What if there was something you wanted and you waited 80 years? Would that be hard? Read: Well in our story from the Bible today, we re going to learn about a man and a woman who were maybe even older than your great-grandparents and they ve been waiting their whole lives for one thing for God to answer their prayers for God to save His people. But finally when they were very, very old, God gave them what they had waited for a little baby that was born. Who do you think that baby was? (Jesus) Right! Read Luke 2:21-22 Read: So Jesus had gotten his name, and was ready to be presented to the Lord! It was a really exciting time! Read Luke 2:25-28 Does Simeon love God? (Yes.) Is he nice and kind? After the Rally Idea: Pretend you hear a noise and pull out a puppet! 1. Greet the kids by reading the names on the board!!! 2. What songs did you sing @ rally? 3. What was the story about? 4. What are we learning? (use the catch phrase.end in prayer) Prayer Time Before you pray, allow the kids time to share with you things that are happening in their lives. Be sure you write these down with their names for you to pray for as the week goes along. Ask about the things they mentioned the previous week. PreK Christmas 5: A Light for Revelation Praise God for sending Jesus to be the Light of the World. Ask God to give us to give us the faith to believe that we really do need to be saved from the darkness of our sins and He is our only Savior. Pray for any specific requests named either by praying yourself or by opening it up to those who said they would pray. Suggested Follow-up Activities Teachers are free to choose the activities that they feel are best for their group. The idea is that as the children work and play, remind them of the truths they just learned. Scripture Memory: Figure out your reward system for memorizing the Scriptures provided in this section. Give the children several opportunities to tell it to you either when they first arrive or at the end of class. Craft: The Light of the World Remind them we talked about Simeon and Anna and how happy they were that they were able to see God s Son, Jesus. Help them to then form it into a tube and tape up the edges. Next, have them bend the tabs and set it on a small paper plate. Give them small pieces of clear tape to adhere it to the plate. Next, give them a small piece of paper to tape on the side of their plate to form a handle for their plate. Finally, give each child a LED, flameless, tealight candle to turn on and set inside of their candle. Talk about how dark our sin is and how grateful we are that Jesus came into the world to give light to our hearts so we can see God through Him.
