Maybe take one to a shut-in or GOOD-BYE It truly has been a pleasure being the music minister at St. John Neumann Parish for the past year. I have felt so welcomed and loved by the SJN family. Thank you for the opportunity to serve your community. My family is relocating to Portland, Oregon. My father in law has been ill this past year and we want to spend some time with that side of our family. We are loading up the conastoga wagons and heading out West on June 11. My last Sunday to play Masses will be Pentecost, June 8th. Please keep my family in your prayers as this has been a difficult decision and stressful time for both Pittsburgh and Portland family members. I love you all and again thank you for your kindness and continued support of the St. John Neumann music ministry. Remember to retract, tilt that thyroid, keep your dorsum high, and anchor every day, and always make a joyful noise unto the Lord. God bless! Ashley THANK YOU! On behalf of the golf committee, thank you for another successful golf outing! What a beautiful day for golf! Everyone enjoyed themselves on the golf course and at dinner. The deadline to register is June 1. If you haven t received your Insights newsletter in the mail, you may register online or call the Rel. Ed. office (ext. 12). SPIRITUAL MARY, MOTHER OF GOD Mother of God is the first and most important title of Our Lady, Pope Francis said, noting that in their devotion to her from early times, the faithful had understood this from the beginning. Mary is our Mother too, the Pope reminded us, ever since Jesus, dying on the Cross, gave her to us as our Mother, saying Behold your Mother! Through the most difficult and trying times, Mary s sorrowing heart was enlarged to make room for all men and women, whether good or bad, the Pope said, and she communicates her maternal affection to each and every person a source of hope and true joy. Inviting the faithful to entrust to her the journey of faith, the desires of our heart, our needs and the needs of the whole world, especially of those who hunger and thirst for justice and peace," Pope Francis said by Mary s example of humility and openness to God s will she helps us to transmit our faith in a joyful proclamation of the Gospel to all, without reservation. If Mary is the Mother of God, Mother of the Church and our Mother maybe that is why in May when we celebrate Mother s Day, is the month of Mary. LOWC Liturgy of the Word for Children (LOWC) is a great family activity - especially in the summer. Think about gathering around the Sunday Gospel to read and reflect on Jesus message for all of us. You don t have to lead LOWC every week - you pick the dates and Mass times and we ll supply you with resources and guides. Let the Spirit move you to creatively help our young children experience God s Word. Call Barb Stokes for more info.

We ll be happy to help answer any questions you may have. MISC. FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH?? LIGHT OF LIFE COLLECTION?? BLESSING OF EXPECTANT PARENTS?? BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING PASTORAL CARE FOR CATHOLIC PATIENTS AT UPMC PASSAVANT HOSPITAL Have a family member hospitalized? Would like to have them receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick? Simply make your intention known to the patient s nurse. Without any one priest assigned as a chaplain at most hospitals in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, ALL hospitals are provided with a PROTOCAL to serve Catholic patients. The process begins with informing the floor nurse of your desire to have a patient anointed. The nurse is responsible for contacting the unit clerk (or tech), who contacts the operator at the switchboard, who will contact the chaplain who will make arrangements for the patients to be seen by a Catholic priest. This priest will likely not be your parish priest. However, a parish priest is assigned to provide sacramental coverage to area hospitals every day of the year. It is imperative that this process be followed so that necessary parties are kept in the communication loop. With the fewer priests available for service in the diocese, this protocol has been worked out for the good of all. Following this procedure helps to assure that Catholics receive appropriate sacramental care while making the best use of the limited number of priests that are available. Families are encouraged to let the parish know that your loved one has been hospitalized so that they will be prayed for and a visit made when possible. When anticipating surgery, it is strongly suggested that you make a request to your parish priest to be anointed prior to your admission to the hospital. Thank you! ELECTRONIC GIVING PROGRAM You can have your SJN contribution automatically withdrawn from your checking or saving account each month. Avoid the hassle of searching for your envelopes each week. Save time writing checks. A record of each contribution will appear on your bank statement. Please contact the Parish Office (Ext. 10) SERVICE Pleasant Valley Mens Shelter Our next dinner is Friday, June 6th. If you would be willing to provide a side dish, casserole, dessert, salad, fruit or beverage, pleases contact Phyllis Huber (412-367-1437) or Cathy Gillis (412-548-3646). If you would prefer to donate an item - coffee, tea, creamers, granola bars, breakfast items, etc., are always welcomed. Be sure to let us know so that we do not miss picking up those items. We continue to collect clothes, jackets and bedding. All we ask is that clothing, towels and bedding are in GOOD, CLEAN condition. Toiletries (especially deodorant), new socks, and large or XL items are always needed. All items can be placed in the Pleasant Valley bin in the Donation Center under the stairs. PRAYER MINISTRY Please pray for the new additions to our prayer list. If you would like to add someone to the list, instructions are provided at http://stjohnneumannpghprayer.blogspot.com.
