Gathering The light of Christ is brought into the Sanctuary *Introit Third Sunday in Lent 10:45 am Spirit of the Living God Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me (repeat) Melt me; mold me; fill me; use me Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me Welcome & Announcements Jane Bogue, Liturgist (All are invited to sign in the Friendship Register) Let us prepare our hearts and minds to worship God Chimes Call to Worship: One: We gather to share in our love of God. We gather to share our witness to God s goodness. All: Lord, open our hears and let us share your Good News. Lord, let our lives bear witness through service to your people. One: We gather to praise God whose love is eternal. We gather to be formed in the image of your Son, the Christ. All: Lord, open our hearts today to sing your praises. Lord, let our spirits be molded in the Light of Christ s mercy, grace, and justice. One: In our richness, we have believed that we are the ones who have all the answers to life s problems. In our power, we believe that might is right. All: But when those who have little offer what they have; we are put to shame. When those who are powerless offer love and mercy; we are humbled in our shame. One: Joy fills our lives, when we center our lives on Jesus Christ. Comfort fills our All: spirits when we believe in the Lord. Hope fills our hearts when we focus on our Savior. Give thanks to God by proclaiming God s goodness throughout the world. Amen! *Opening Hymn 32 I Sing the Mighty Power of God Prayer of Confession One: We confess to you, Lord, what we are; we are not the people we like others to think we are; we are afraid to admit even to ourselves what lies in the depths of our souls. But we do not want to hide or true selves from you. We believe that you know us as we are, and yet you still love us. 2

All: Help us not to shrink from self-knowledge; teach us to respect ourselves for your sake; give us the courage to put our trust in your guiding power. Raise us out of guilt and fear. Take us into the freedom and energy of a forgiven people. And for those who through long habit find forgiveness hard to accept, we ask that you would break their bondage and set them free by your grace. Amen. Declaration of Forgiveness One: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. May the God of mercy who forgives us all our sins strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. All: Thanks be to God for we are indeed forgiven in Christ, who is Jesus. Amen! The Peace One: May the Peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. Let us pass the Peace to one another. *Congregational Response 579 Glory Be to the Father CCLI License # 1049021 3

The Word Prayer for Illumination One: Holy and gracious God, may your Holy Spirit give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that with the eyes of our hearts enlightened, we may know the hope to which Christ has called us, the riches of his glorious inheritance among us, and the greatness of his power for those who believe. All: With hearts wide open, eyes focused, and ears on edge, grant us your wisdom this day. Amen Scripture Reading (ESV): Psalms 12-17, 1 Kings 19:9-15 One: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Choir Anthem Sermon Wind Rev. Charley Shurtz *Hymn 182 I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say *Statement of Faith (in unison) Apostles Creed (Traditional) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN. Prayers of the People Silent Prayer Time The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 4

All: Amen.
