Embraced and crowned by Christ her son, her praises sung the heavens through, when coronation day was done, I wonder, what did Mary do? I think the great yet humble queen would put aside her diadem and reminisce on what had been on that first night in Bethlehem. when she beheld her God-man child as helpless infant on her breast, and he looked up at her and smiled, glad for your Yes to God s request. Through fields of light the couple walked, the son and mother who fooled death, arm in loving arm, and talked of those sweet days in Nazareth. The wagon he and Joseph made to cheer his poor lame friend, the picnics in the cedars shade, finding wonders without end. Their morning trips to the town well to fill the water jars when he would ask to hear her tell about the kings who traveled far SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH ORADELL/NEW MILFORD, NJ AFTER THE CROWNING to bring him gifts of myrrh and gold, and shepherds with a lamb newborn who said a choir of angels told that he would save a world forlorn. They d mention old Jerusalem where only twelve he stayed behind not thinking how he worried them. You had your Father s work in mind. Then heaven s queen, adored yet meek, would ask her son if they might pause, and with a kiss upon his cheek, plead her adopted children s cause. Dear one, she d say, please grant my prayer, knowing she won t be denied, this mother who has borne her share of pain, whose heart was crucified. Pour down your enlightening grace on struggling souls who would be free of snares and habits that debase, and lead them home to you and me. ~ An original poem by Marie L. NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ~ AUGUST 12, 2018 The last window gives us a heartfelt portrayal of when Jesus Meets His Mother in the Passion. Luke s Gospel only briefly mentions the encounter between Jesus and his mother on the way to His crucifixion. We are told nothing of what was said between Jesus and Mary, yet one can sense that Jesus and Mary share much in this brief moment of silence. Mary certainly bore the pain, sorrow and grief of a mother watching the suffering of her son. Jesus must have also suffered the pain of seeing his mother before him in tears. But Jesus s encounter brings him to a powerful source of His strength to complete what God his Father called Him to do. That source of strength is Mary, for in silence she was there for Jesus, fulfilling her role as Mother of our Lord a role she fulfills for us as well. Mary shares, in a unique way, the mystery of Christ, by sharing in the incarnation, ministry and death on the Cross of her Son. By doing so, she, as mother, helps make present for all of us the mystery of Christ. In each of these stained glass windows, we come to fully understand how Mary, through her faith, figures so prominently in the revealing of God s message of salvation. Mary is the constant presence of Christ s love for us. Mary is not only the mother of Jesus; she is also the Mother of all and, she never lets us forget the love that Christ Jesus has for us. It is that Mary, so closely associated with all the mysteries of Jesus life, which the Holy Spirit has led us to believe also shares in His glorification. That is what we celebrate this Wednesday, August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, our faithful belief that, as our beautiful new chapel windows show us, so close was Mary to Jesus on earth, so too must she be with him body and soul in heaven. As we gaze upon these windows of Mary s Chapel, may we always pray with confidence - Mother of God, intercede for us! Peace, We welcome Saint Joseph Parochial Vicar, Father Anthony Di Stefano, as the newest contributor to Saint Joseph s parish bulletin. Fr. Anthony offers us a very special reflection on our Blessed Mother. The installation of the last of our new stained glass windows in Mary s Chapel gives us a wonderful opportunity to consider how these multiple pieces of colored glass are fashioned into true works of art that tell a story of faith. These last three windows, depicted in the images found on the cover of our bulletin (and below) complete the magnificent contribution to our life as parishioners when we gather to worship and meditate in the sanctuary of Mary s Chapel. The artistry of these beautiful stained glass windows show and tell a story of faith that allows us to peer into the life of Jesus Christ and His great mystery through the eyes of His mother, our Blessed Virgin Mary. The first of these windows giving us a glimpse into the life of Jesus depicts the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Jesus coming into the world as the son of Mary and Joseph shows that the family is an important building block both in the Church and in the world. The Holy Family in love and unity with God and one another is the model all Christian families seek to imitate. Though the life of any family includes challenges and stress, the life of the Holy Family encourages us to invest ourselves in the relationships that make up family life. As we strive to imitate each member of the Holy Family, Mary, a woman who pondered all things in her heart, displays the faith and trust that are essential ingredients of an authentic family relationship. Our second window is a rendering of the passage from John s Gospel on The Wedding of Cana, where we encounter Mary taking a prominent lead in the beginning of the ministry of Jesus and, in trust and confidence, instructs the servants at the feast to do whatever he tells you. In these very last spoken words of Mary recorded in the Gospels, our Blessed Mother recognized the glory of her Son, and had faith to believe in Him even before the disciples did and, is the first person to show, in action, that the correct response to the presence of her Son Jesus Christ is a faithfulness to His word. (continued above) Fr. Anthony RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) RCIA is an opportunity to learn more about Catholicism and to become fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Sessions begin in September on selected Wednesday evenings and continue through Easter. Anyone who would like to inquire about becoming a fully initiated Catholic through the sacraments, or any Catholic adult who would like to be confirmed, is welcome to attend.
