Knight News Council 6320 Fall Grand Knight s Message Worthy Brothers, The days are getting shorter, but our list of activities never does. The Columbian Year is just getting into gear and the council has already swung into full action. Sadly, we laid to rest some beloved brothers Deacon Tony Signorelli & Brother Vincent Saponar. While we will miss them as brothers, fathers, and husbands the lives they have touched guarantee their generosity of spirit lives on. It is in that spirit that we already fulfilled our Quarterly commitments to the Dover Soup Kitchen and the Lyons s Veteran s hospital. We hosted our 1 st ever Soccer Challenge (thanks to Brother Jim Danielson for taking this on) and held out 13 th Annual Golf Outing. As a result of Golf Chairman PGK Mike Brescia and his committee s efforts, the event was held in a new location with spectacular results. Not only are golfers already asking about signing up for next year, but the event far exceeded our fundraising goals. Thank you to all the brothers that came out to support our efforts and a special thanks to all our Sponsors and the DPD for all their involvement. We have over a dozen events/activities in the 4 th Qtr of alone! Be sure to check out the Calendar of Events both in this newsletter and on the web site (kofc6320.org). Many of the events are brand new Charity Mania, St. Therese Day, Precious Metal s Exchange, Handmade Rosary Sales and a Cinco De Mayo Pig Roast. Don t be left out of the action..there is something for EVERYONE. Get more details and get involved. I guarantee your help will be more than welcomed. Chaplain s Corner Some thoughts from our Chaplain Father Marc. Penned in the past, but as pertinent as ever. February 15 th, 2009 Discarding of Sacramentals Sacramentals, as stated in the Catechism are sacred signs which bear a resemblance to the sacraments, (#1667). First, and foremost, they are blessing of persons, meals, objects and places, (catechism #1671). The purpose of sacramentals are to prepare us to receive the fruit of the sacraments and sanctify different circumstances of life, (catechism #1677). Some examples of sacramental s are a holy card, crucifix, rosary beads and statues. Indeed, because of the blessing bestowed upon a sacramental such as a crucifix, rosary beads, etc. can be radically changed. It can suddenly become broken, burned and/or debased. What should you do with the sacramental in that circumstance? If a sacramental is so radically changed, it is no longer considered blessed. Sadly, it s purpose to increase our faith and assist our spirit of prayer has been lost. It would not be wrong to discard a sacramental if it has become radically changed. However, a proper disposal of the sacramental is expected! Vivat Jesus, David Reinknecht Grand Knight 1 P a g e

Membership Memo Engagement Opportunities We are looking for some ideas to keep our newest members involved with the Council and its activities. Think about when you first joined what would have helped you be more active or get to more meetings? Is it being personally invited or having someone offer to give you a ride to the meeting? Would it have helped if someone like your sponsor stayed in touch? Please let me know your thoughts/ideas and if you would like to help me keep our newest members engaged. (gbirrer@elusys.com) Membership Chairman & PGK Greg Birrer Brothers. Our council is an ACTIVE Council. We have many talented and generous brothers who run the events - but new volunteers, ideas and opinions are always needed. Roses for Parenthood We are looking for new volunteers to join our Roses for Motherhood Program! This Popular program entails supporting our new mothers and fathers who chose life by being present at Baptisms in the Church. Please contact John Wolf at 973-584-5413 Membership / Admissions Committee The GK handbook states - The strength and the growth of a Council has always depended on its ability to recruit new members. Our membership Chairman PGK Greg Birrer does an exceptional job, however the growth and future of the council is larger than the efforts of any one brother. We need another 4 5 brothers who can alternate attending degree ceremonies, vetting new members and helping out with the overall membership program. Nothing demonstrates the fraternity of our council like attending a degree ceremony for a new brother knight! Being a member of the membership committee is more than simply a role to fill. It is a position that helps to ensure the future of the council, and in turn the future of the charities we support. If your available to go to help with membership please contact PGK Greg Birrer at gbirrer@elusys.com. ` 3 P a g e

In Case You Were Wondering I am constantly amazed when I hear brothers who have been around a few years asking what is it we really do? What are we really accomplishing? Sure, we collect donations and have the occasional social, but how much does that really help? Once the blinding flash of overwhelming angst passes - I remind myself that very few brothers (with the exception of PGK s), bear witness to every aspect of the council operations. Every event, every issue, every donation request, every idea, is handled by one group of brothers or another, and it all crosses the desk of the GK. That is not meant as a complaint, but it s not all roses and candy either. What it is however is a unique, unfiltered window into everything that is Council 6320 and I cannot say enough about how truly INSPIRING the end result really is. Between the door collections and all the events/functions we host last year alone we were able to raise the following: 3,386 - Church (St. Cecelia's, Baskets of Hope, Dunlow, Rosary Society, Seminarian Support, EWTN) 3,200 - DPD (Department for Persons with Disabilities/Calabrese House) 400 Home School Association (Graduation Bonds, Tricky Tray) 5,825 Pro Life (Hope House, Birth Haven, Birth Right, Pro Life) 8,000 Scholarships (Giovannoli STEM Scholarships, Council Scholarships) 4,860 - Social Services (Roxbury Social Services, Catholic Charities Food Pantry, St. Peter s Orphanage, Trinity Lutheran Church Faith Kitchen) 1,050 - Veterans (Operation Chillout, Robe a Vet at the VA Hospital) 735 - Youth (Scouting, Roxbury Baseball, Project Graduation) 4,500 - Other (Christ in Christmas Billboards, Straight and Narrow, Alzheimer's Fund, Misc) All total we were able to donate over $42,000 in charitable donations and supplied over 4,500 volunteer hours!! It is important to note that many of our members, your fellow brothers and parishioners are also individually active and serve as lecturers, ushers, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, CCD teachers, and participants in numerous parish committees as well as having served our country in the Armed Forces. That is what we do. Vivat Jesus, David Reinknecht Grand Knight Ask an Officer I received a number of good questions in reply to my request for suggestions. In full disclosure, I simply ran out of time to add the question and answer segment into this newsletter. I will however not wait until the next newsletter to distribute the questions and answers but will instead be sending them out vie email periodically since there were some quality questions that many could benefit from. 7 P a g e
