Chapter Newsletter for February 2005 Est. 1990 Vol. #2-2005 Directors Report Greetings to everyone! What a welcome to the New Year! Looks like we have had almost every type of winter weather in January. It sure makes me itchy for warmer weather and you know what. Our January meeting ran a little over an hour. It always takes longer to cut the wood for the fire than it does to start it. There was some great brain storming during the meeting and it will be fun to put some of those good ideas into motion in the form of goals for 2005. One of the things discussed was a New Member Packet to present to those who join our chapter. National HOG provides lots of great stuff to those who join, but little is out there for folks who want to get involved in a local chapter or even have information about the next ride. As part of the New Member Packet, a history of our chapter would be interesting and informative. Anyone with information and/or an interest in rounding up some of that information, please step up to the plate and let me know. I would like to have a graft together for the February meeting. Another important topic of discussion was changing the five winter meetings to Saturday afternoon. We will be voting on this change in meeting date and time at the February meeting so if you want your vote to count, please attend the meeting. Lastly, the Christmas Party was a great time with great people, great food, great music (even with the windows), great door prizes and a great location. Thanks Jim. All forty people who attended were full of laughter and crazy introductions. Also our past director was presented with a token of appreciation for a job well done. Thank you Jeff! In closing, for those that are itching to ride and counting the days, see you in the hot tub at our Annual Throttle Itch Party on Saturday, February 19 th. See Ya! Hoop

Activities Officer Jim reported on the Christmas Party being held January 14th. Jim reported on the Throttle Itch scheduled for February 19th. 3 motels contacted. Meeting Adjourned at 8:40 PM Jim Hyde/ Chapter Secretary New Members Robert Gilbertson Donald Hageman Stephen & Carol Katsumes Allen E. Wagner Soup Party A few pictures from the Soup Party. Throttle Itch Party / Jim Reiser Hi fellow HOG members, Well I have things set up for the annual "Throttle Itch Weekend Getaway" and taking this email as an opportunity to get you the information. It's that time of year when you might be thinking about getting away from the snow and cold and spending some time sitting by the pool or soaking in the hot tub. This is a great opportunity to relax in the company of your fellow HOG members reminiscing about past motorcycle rides, planning futures ones, getting to know your biking comrades a little better and having some laughs, especially if Bernie is there. It will be held Saturday February 19th at the American Inn in Fayette, Iowa. The rooms have two queen size beds and the cost will be $69.90 for two people or $79.90 for four, plus

tax. Children stay for free. This includes use of all facilities and also they provide a Continental breakfast in the morning. Those attending are encouraged to bring snacks, finger foods and the beverages of their choice ( but NO GLASS containers are allowed in the pool area). The hotel manager said they have a "no food policy in the pool area", but that we could use the breakfast area. Also I think maybe with a little discretion they might bend that rule some, but remember we are guests at this establishment. You can make reservations by calling (563) 425-0214. Remember to mention you are with the NEIA HOG Chapter so that you are charged the above mentioned room rates. I have ten rooms reserved thru February 14th, and after that it will depend upon availability. Hope you can make it! If you know someone that might be interested and don't see their names listed up above, you might want to mention this to them. Jim Reiser (Activities Director) NOTE: I know that we were talking about the possibility of staying at the Country Inn at Decorah at the last meeting, but I called and they said that they would not reserve rooms past February 1st and the newsletter wouldn't be out in time to even promote this event, nor would we be having a meeting before that either. Also the hotel manager said that there was a big volleyball tournament in Decorah that weekend and they usually fill up for that, so I took it upon myself to go with the American Inn in Fayette instead Christmas Party / Jim Reiser Christmas Party On Saturday, January 15th, 36 of us braved the below zero temperatures and made our way to Wild Willy's in Waukon for the annual HOG Christmas party. It was held upstairs in a new room that was great for a group like ours. After a short social hour, we were treated to a buffet of roast beef, roast pork, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables. The food was excellent other than some dry dinner rolls. After we finished eating, our new chapter director and host for the evening, Gary "Hoop" Hooper proceeded with a little game as to how the door prizes would be distributed. He had it figured out so that one person at each table would win at least one prize. Hoop and I had picked out about a dozen prizes from the shop including coffee mugs, picture frames, big cooler, piggy bank, and several glass sets. The grand prize of the night was a Harley Davidson wall clock, which was won by Gary Gissel. After that Hoop had us get up and introduce ourselves. The biggest laugh of the night was when Bernie stood up and said, "Hi my name is Bernie Jaster and I'm an alcoholic!", as only Bernie could do. That was a pretty tough act to follow. Soon after that the music began, which was questionable at first, but after a few drinks and as the night went on, it seemed to get better. I would like to thank all of you that attended, especially those that came from long distances on a cold night to join in the fun. Hope you all had a good time! I would also like to thank Waukon Harley for giving us a discount on the door prizes. Jim Reiser (Activities Director)

Chili Cookoff / Jim Reiser This is just a reminder that on March 19th we will be holding our annual Chili Cook-Off at the Harley shop. This is one of the chapter's biggest fund-raising events and so you should mark this date on your calendar so you and your friends can attend. You might also want to take advantage of these cold winter days to try out a new, or tweak an old chili recipe to enter in the contest. Bon Appetit! Jim Reiser (Activities Director) Chapter Dues Chapter dues for 2005 are now due. The cost remains the same as before, $12.00 for single and $18.00 for family. Fill out enclosed enrollment and release form, and with remittance turn in at Waukon H-D or Sue Ryan chapter treasurer.
