O Donnell There are very few days in the Church year for penitential absence from meat as a sacrifice. It is serious enough as an obligation as to be listed as one of the Precepts of the Church. I am happy this year to give a dispensation from the Lenten abstinence requirement for those attending a St. Patrick s Day celebration in a parish or other Catholic organization, but ask our Catholics attending that dinner/event to transfer the Lenten abstinence sacrifice to Thursday, March 16. Respectfully yours in the Lord, Most Reverend David M. O Connell, C.M., J.C.D. Bishop of Trenton There will be a Second Collection for our Diocesan Assessment the weekend of March 18 & 19 th. Envelopes will be available in the Commons area. 2

Parish Pastoral Council Meeting The Parish Pastoral Council will be meeting on March 14th in the All Purpose Room. The open session is held from 8:15PM to 9:15PM. All parishioners are welcome to attend. We encourage you to attend the open session and share your input. Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9 Wishing to reveal His glory to Peter, James and John, Jesus takes them to a mountain where he is transfigured before them. When Peter exclaims that he will build three tabernacles here in honor of Jesus, Moses and Elijah, a voice from above proclaims: This is My beloved Son on whom My favor rests. Listen to him. God has saved us and has called us to a holy life, not because of any merit of ours but according to his own design the grace held out to us in Christ Jesus before the world began but now made manifest through the appearance of our Savior. He has robbed death of its power With Peter, James and John we join Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. It is a transforming moment, when the Lord reveals to us who He is. The voice speaks, not only telling us of Jesus, but also that we are chosen, His favor rests in us, and our lent is our moment to be transformed by God s forgiving grace. We remember the simple definition that grace is the very life of God, communicated to us as a gift, and accepted. We begin our second week on our journey, aware that we have been chosen. God offers us the gift of His grace, but we need to seek it and accept it. As Paul told Timothy, God s grace robs sin of its power. Another name for grace is power. Use it, seek forgiveness and forgive someone else. Are you a Business Owner? Have You Considered Advertising in the Parish Bulletin? The program offers an innovative approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle where people get better together by optimizing their health in each of these life areas. Each essential supports and influences the others, offering a practical step-by-step approach for anyone to follow. The essentials of Faith and Friends are what we call the secret sauce that makes The Daniel Plan so effective. The program benefits are accelerated when done in a supportive community of friends because God designed us to thrive in relationships. We have learned that the process of getting healthy and staying healthy relies on the support and encouragement of friends. With the support of God and your group, you have far more than willpower helping you to make positive changes so you can be consistent and sustain your new healthy lifestyle. The overarching message of The Daniel Plan is about abundance, not deprivation, and this is why the plan is both transformational and sustainable. We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with the Rosary, quiet prayer, and closing with Benediction. We will meet the second Wednesday of each month in the Worship Area at 7pm starting March 8, 2017.
