CONCORDIA S PURPOSE To Make the Love of Jesus R.E.A.L. in the Lives of All People 1 SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER May 20, 2012 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. AS WE GATHER (Prepared by Jim Gann) And when He had said these things, as they were looking on, He was lifted up, and a cloud took Him out of their sight. Acts 1:9 ESV Before Jesus ascended into Heaven to take His rightful place at the Father s right hand, He told the Apostles to stay put until the Holy Spirit came to them. Then they would be empowered to go and boldly proclaim in His name the message of repentance and forgiveness, first to Jerusalem and in all of Judah and Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth. The mission and commission the Apostles received is ours today, to continually sew the seeds of the Good News. means to be seated means to stand, unless repeated standing is difficult PRELUDE CALL TO WORSHIP RINGING OF THE BELLS

OPENING HYMN #465 Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds 2 + DIVINE SERVICE SETTING FOUR + INVOCATION, CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION P: In the name of the Father and the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. P: Our help is in the name of the Lord. C: who made heaven and earth. P: If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C: But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P: Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Silence for personal confession C: Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen.

P: Let us pray: ALL: O King of glory, Lord of hosts, uplifted in triumph far above all heavens, leave us not without consolation, but send us the Spirit of truth whom You promised from the Father; that we may be joined together to do your will; for You live and reign with Him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 4 FIRST READING Acts 1:12-26 (Jesus' ministry continues with a replacement for Judas.) R: The First reading is from Acts, chapter one. (After the reading ) R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. EPISTLE 1 John 5:9-15 R: The Epistle reading is from 1 John, chapter five. (After the reading ) R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God!

ALLELUIA VERSE 5 HOLY GOSPEL John 17:11b-19 (Jesus prays for the ministry of His Church after His ascension.) P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the seventeenth chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord. (After the reading ) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ APOSTLE'S CREED All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen. We invite the children forward as we sing: L.U.Y.H., page 11 In my life, Lord, Be glorified, be glorified. In my life, Lord, Be glorified today. In your Church, Lord, Be glorified, be glorified.
