We had several angels, some little cows, Mary and Joseph, 3 wisemen, 3 little shepherds, St. Michael heading the float and St. Gabriel. A big thank you to Bill Bedrick for driving the float and also donating the use of his truck and trailer. You can go to the church website to view pictures of the parade. Coffee and Catechism You are invited to coffee in the Religious Education office on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 6:25pm followed by an hour helping in one of the Religious Education classrooms or monitoring a hallway during class time. We have excellent Catechists, but we are often short of the required 2 nd screened adult in the classroom. This is not difficult work and most of the adults comment that they really learn a lot and enjoy helping. At this time there are no inside hall monitors or outdoor monitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We really need your help so that all of our children can have a memorable and safe experience as they study the Catholic faith. If you have a little free time to help, please contact Susan Warner in the Religious Education office, send an e-mail to susanwarner0309@sbcglobal.net, or text 469-471-4395 for details. Thank you. Second Week of Christmas Religious Education Calendar for January: Sunday Classes: 3 rd, 10 th, 17 th, 24 th. Tuesday Classes: 5 th, 12 th, 19th, 26 th. Wednesday Classes: 6 th, 13 th, 20 th, 27 th. We are almost a month into Pope Francis s Year of Mercy. Instead of making New Year s resolutions to give up candy, lose weight, or improve our exercise routine (all of which are good), let each of us work on being more compassionate, understanding, patient, and caring of each other. Our world needs more love and understanding. Let us be the ones that reach out to others to help in any way that we are able. Parents are reminded to follow the Drop Off and Pick Up procedures in the Religious Education Parent Handbook. Parents dropping off their children in grades 5-12 are to turn right off Frances St. (not left) into the driveway between the Parish Hall and the Parish Center then drop their children off by the ramp at the Parish Center. Parents that continue to drop their children on Frances St. or in the parking lot north of the church will be given a refund on tuition and their children will be removed from the program. Parents that have an issue with this may contact Susan Warrner or Fr. Orosco in the Parish office. The safety of our children is much more important than the few minutes it might save a parent getting home. We ask everyone s patience and cooperation. Thank you for complying with this request. Children s Christmas Eve Mass and Pageant The annual Children s Christmas Pageant, O Come Let Us Adore Him, was performed on Christmas Eve just prior to the Children s Christmas Eve Mass, December 24, 2015 at 4:00pm. Due to the early deadlines for submitting bulletin news for the Christmas season, a written account of the pageant, complete with thanks to all who helped, will appear in the January 10 th bulletin. On Sunday, January 3, many parts of the world will celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, although some countries will celebrate it on Wednesday, January 6. The Epiphany celebrates the light that has come into the darkness of the world and that our salvation was made known to the Gentiles. In countries not celebrating Epiphany, the Second Sunday of Christmas is celebrated, with the beginning of John's Gospel and its poetic images of light and the Word. Monday is the Memorial of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and Tuesday the Memorial of Saint John Neumann, Bishop. In the week that follows the Epiphany we continue with more of the beautiful first readings from the First Letter of John. He wants us to believe the message: we are from God and are loved by God and whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. The Gospels this week are from all four gospel writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We read of Jesus traveling through Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people. He feeds loaves and fishes to the hungry and exhorts his disciples, Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid! when they are caught in a storm at sea. When he reads from the scriptures at the synagogue, he proclaims, Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing. When a leper begs for healing, Jesus says, " I do will it. Be made clean. On Saturday, John tells his followers he is not the Christ. He must increase; I must decrease.
