THANK YOU OLOS PARISHIONERS! Christian Services Commission would like to thank our generous OLOS parishioners for providing Christmas cheer in so many ways in December! Thank you for... providing 20 Festive Plants and cards for our homebound parishioners. Each person who received a plant was very touched and grateful to be remembered. And we are most grateful to those parishioners who delivered the plants to our homebound - Joan Spano, Mary Alice Dowdell and Connie Malloy...contributing over 57 gifts and countless supplies and baked goodies to the families of Evelyn House for our annual Christmas Party held on December 11, 2016. A special thank you to the volunteers who joined us at Evelyn House to take pictures as well as run the activities for the children and adults. And a huge shout-out to our own Deacon Frank Tremblay who appeared as Santa to the thrill of the children of Evelyn House. Best wishes to all our fellow OLOS parishioners for a very Happy New Year! Grand Annual Campaign As of December 23rd we have collected $86,233 from 166 parishioners. Thank you to all who have already given to this year s campaign. Special 2nd Collection: Assistance to Urban Parishes The Archdiocese of Boston currently provides financial assistance to urban parishes in particular geographic areas that historically have had a strong Catholic presence. Many of these urban parishes have a high population of newcomers to our country, are in areas of higher socio-economical risk and are deemed critical to the mission of the Church. This collection will help continue this support to urban parishes to provide resources for mission and ministry in these parishes and for the people in the communities they serve. Assistance is needed for such parishes experiencing financial hardship and who struggle to sustain their mission and meet their financial obligations. Your support is needed to maintain a Catholic presence in areas where the economic realities of the parishioner base cannot fully support the expenses of a parish. This collection will help bridge the funding gap. We all share responsibility to proclaim God s Good News of Jesus Christ with all the people of the Archdiocese of Boston regardless of the parish s ability to pay. The generous response of your parishioners to this collection will help sustain the vital work that occurs each day in these parishes. I am grateful for your help at this time to both impact and improve the lives of these parishioners. ~ Bishop Peter Uglietto Help Wanted Our 20 year old son Aidan has Down Syndrome and Autism and we are looking for an energetic, lively caring person who can be a friend to him and support him while he doing his activities. Sharon, MA Our Lady of Sorrows Parish From Senior Deacon Mike: With Christmas falling on a Sunday, the church marked the close of the Christmas season (liturgically) with the Epiphany and with evening prayer. January 9 is the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. Tuesday, Jan. 10, we begin the Ordinary Time in the calendar. It is green again! 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time A popular television commercial not only highlights people helping someone, but how others who witness their kindness are inspired to do the same. As one person helps another, still others spread the kind acts that have a ripple effect of touching many lives and changing social standards and concerns. Good deeds are an example of how we put into action our belief that everyone is made in the image and likeness of God. We recognize in them the Divine imprint of the Creator who brands each of us with an indelible mark of dignity and destiny. So it is no surprise that John should recognize Jesus as the chosen One, the Anointed, the Messiah. He sees with the eyes of faith the mark that sets Jesus apart and he announces it to all who would listen. Our life of faith includes not only bold acts of kindness, but also the bold announcement that Jesus is present among us as Lord and Messiah. We cannot hide our faith, nor deny we have it. Our words and deeds must both proclaim our faith and hope that Jesus is Lord. ~James Gaffney, 2007 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. We encourage all our parishioners who worship with us to register. Our registry is a vital source of connection we use to communicate and build community. Please call the rectory, 781-784-2265, or return this form to the rectory via the collection basket, mail, or in person. Thank you.
