PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy One, creator of the universe, we imagine that we are in familiar territory, that we know what to expect of this hour, that we will leave much the way that we came. Do not abandon us to our foolishness. Open us to your transformative work. In mercy, take our hand and guide our steps, that we may recognize and enter into your presence wherever evil is confronted, truth is spoken, and life is restored. Amen. RESPONDING TO THE WORD *HYMN I, the Lord of Sea and Sky Insert (vv. 1-2) *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into Hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. *THE GLORIA PATRI PH 579 THE OFFERING THE OFFERING IN MUSIC He s Just the Same Today Arr. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS From the Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study : Season of Peace; A Social Creed for the 21st Century; 2017 International Peacemakers; Wisdom Journey: A Declaration of God-Dependence; No Strings attached Education Program; World Day of Prayer for Latin American Women; Community Outreach. Joys: Under challenging times, love is springing up all over our city; Tricia s birthday; Margaret Crozier s medical tests were downgraded to monitoring only thanks for prayers! Concerns: Prayers for all those affected by Hurricane Harvey; prayers of comfort for the family of Ray Tiley, aka Santa Ray, due to his likeness to Santa Claus; prayers of comfort for the family of Brian Baker s Uncle Howard. Women s Bible Study: Starting this year, we will discuss Cloud of Witnesses. The Letter to the Hebrews is a significant book of the Bible, and is also much different from every other book in the Bible. It consists of thirteen chapters, all of which are packed with theology, metaphor, comparisons, and spirituality. We will explore nine major themes, relate those themes to other parts of our faith tradition, and tie them together with the overarching motif of community. The community for which the letter was written interacts, in a sense, with all the communities of which you are a part, because you bring those groups with you wherever you go they have helped to form you into the person you are. The community in which you study and worship, your family and friends, social and therapy groups - all are part of you. Our prayer is that the study of community in Hebrews will help us strengthen our own communities. All women are welcome!! Conversation is lively and covers many of our daily questions. These studies do not require a great knowledge of the Bible, only a desire to look at our personal spirituality. We meet the second and fourth Monday of each month. This year classes start October 2 at 7pm in Julien House. We are ordering books immediately; the cost is $8.00. Please let Kathie Ackerman know if you are interested.

ANNOUNCEMENTS YOGA CHURCH: Join us for a yoga class in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays, 5-6pm, beginning on September 10th! No prior experience necessary. Bring your own mat or towel. Pastor William s Office Hours will change from Tuesdays and Thursdays to Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 am 1 pm. Our church, as we did last year, will host a Community Action group of first year students from Princeton University in our Fellowship Hall, the first week of September (Monday the 4th through Friday the 8th). Choir Dates: Thursday, September 14 at 7 pm in Play & Learn; Handbells: Thursday, September 28-1st rehearsal 8:15 pm; Christmas Choir rehearsals begin October 19. If you're interested in joining the choir, speak to Wendy in church or contact her via email: giduly@juno.com or phone (texts are ok). Church Music: What would you like to hear? Anyone requesting to hear special selections during the Meditation, Prelude or Postlude, please see Bob, or email him with your request at MusicBob@Comcast.net. Readers Needed: Please sign up to be an occasional Reader for Sunday Worship. It s easy and all you have to do is read 2 things: the Prayer for Illumination and the First Reading. You will get an email with your script the Friday before Worship and a hard copy at church, so there is nothing to do but show up and read. Thank you! St. Mary s Food Pantry Current Needs: Although we appreciate every donation we receive, we have an overabundance of green beans, corn, kidney beans, and pasta at this time. We kindly request: Canned chicken; tomato sauce; granola bars; canned pork and beans; razors. Please place items in the basket in the rear of the church. Thank you for your continued support and generosity. To learn more, go to: Facebook.com/St.MarysFoodPantry.
