Please join together in welcoming back our students for the academic year 2015-2016. We look forward to the beginning of another exciting school year when classes begin Monday, August 24. This is a very special time in our Academy s history as September, 2015, marks the 90th anniversary of Catholic education here at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. We are proud of the excellent educational and extra-curricular opportunities we are able to offer our students, and we are so very proud of our students and our graduates alike.

PAGE 2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We welcome our children and teachers back to school Monday! Dear boys and girls, may this year be one of many blessings for you. We re celebrating our 90 th Anniversary! I pray that you will use this year to grow more deeply in love with Jesus and His Church, and that you will use the many opportunities presented to you to grow in all of the arts and sciences. Be good to your teachers. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard last weekend for the Ordination, First Mass and receptions for Father Daniel. The parish received so many compliments from the guests who were visiting. Everything was so beautiful. Thank you one and all. A special thank you goes out to Fr. James Mayer, the MC, and to Abbé Weaver, the assistant MC, at both the Ordination and First Mass. Thank you also to Mark Langley, our music director, and to our choir and instrumentalists for the beautiful music for the Masses and Holy Hour; to our Altar Servers who always do such a woderful job;and to my mother who made the beautiful floral arrangements. The receptions were so generously provided for by you, the parishioners. What a wonderful feast of hors d oerves and pastries. No one could go away hungry! A special thank you goes out to Joanne, Eileen, Rose and Marianne for coordinating the reception and to Doug and Denise on maintenance for their hard work. AUGUST 23, 2015 PAGE 5 SACRED HEART OF JESUS ACADEMY STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE Now that the school year begins in just a few hours perhaps it is time to review one very important matter relating to your child(children s) education at our Academy; namely, tuition. Have you taken out your loan with the Credit Union yet?? Have you begun to make payments (first one was due in June)?? Perhaps you have already paid in full. If so, thank you so much!!! We re looking forward to another fantastic year of learning and growing in Faith. The faculty and staff of the Academy came together last week for a morning of reflection before putting the final touches on their classrooms. A Parent/Student Orientation was held last Friday evening, followed by an ice cream social. If you were unable to attend that important gathering, please be sure to stop by Mr. DiBacco s office Monday morning to check for your child (children s) name on a class list. PSR REGISTRATION We are currently accepting registrations for the 2015-2016 school year for our Parish School of Religion (PSR). Tuition is $100 per family, per year. There is an extra $40 fee for second and eighth grade students since those are sacramental years (First Holy Communion and Confirmation). Forms are available at the Parish Office daily from 9 to 6 and Sunday from 9 to 1. On Sunday, September 13, there will be an Open House for Parents, Students and Faculty beginning at 10 a.m. This will be the first class of the new year. Attendance is required. Please call Deacon David Chordas, PSR Principal if you have questions (216.381.0204). If one or the other of these options appeal to you, please contact Eileen Gerome in the Parish Office (216.382.7601). She will gladly provide the information you need to get set up for automatic giving. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish continues to assist local individuals and families within our parish boundaries who are in need thanks to your generous contributions. Please continue to support the SVDP Society by using the special envelope for the Fifth Sunday of the month dated August 30th. All contributions are used toward assisting those in need and continuing God s mission. If you would like to donate nonperishable food items, here are the most needed items that can be left in the bins at the back of the Church - beef stew, canned soup, canned vegetables, canned tuna, peanut butter and cereal. If you are in need or know of someone in our parish who is in need, please call the Parish Office and a member of the SVDP Society will contact you. If you would like to learn more about the work of The St. Vincent de Paul Society or become a member of our Conference, please call the Rectory for more information and our next meeting time. PAGE 6 21ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME With the deepest gratitude from Father Daniel A. Bowen, O. de M. I add my own words of thanks to Father Daniel s for the overwhelming response from our parish community and groups outside the parish who baked, cooked, offered hospitality at the receptions, spent numerous hours refilling platters and beverage servers, and generally made Father s ordination and first Mass receptions events to remember. Your friendliness and generosity were most appreciated by the Mercedarian priests and brothers, attending religious women, and family and other guests who traveled many miles to attend this milestone event in Father s life. A few weeks ago we had two Saturdays when parishioners expressed their PRIDE in their parish by spending some hours cleaning, painting and sprucing up the grounds. This weekend the parish takes PRIDE in you for your generosity in sharing your time and talent to provide the banquet table at these unique parish events. I am grateful to each of you.
