Notes from Blessed Sacrament School We have come to the end of our 2017-2018 school year and what a fast year this has been! Our Crusaders have accomplished a great deal through this past year and our accreditation plan has come to a close. We have focused our Catholic Identity Plan on the Cardinal Virtues through the past four years and have based our Crusader of the Month and our behavior skills on the Disciples of Christ Virtue Program. Our Academic Plan included expository writing skills which our teachers worked on through professional development with Frank Beichleman of Ohio State. We are very pleased to have completed our four - year program. Crusaders have participated in many field trips throughout this year. We have gone to the pumpkin patch, the Cathedral, the Works, Heartbeats, bowling, Holy Family Museum, Mass with the Bishop during Catholic Schools Week, Newark Catholic, Magic Mountain, Stacy s Buffet, and Sharon Brooke, the zoo, and retreats at St. Peter and Paul and NET Ministries. Our teachers have served on the Diocesan Office of Education committees for our new report cards using standards based education, and curriculum committees. They have also served on the education committee for the Columbus Zoo. Our school was chosen to help pilot Microsoft 365 for students in the Columbus Diocese. Our students successfully completed State Testing for language, math and the Terra Nova tests, as well as ACRE testing for religion. Ten incoming eighth graders have completed and passed Algebra pretesting. This is the largest group to have successfully passed testing to take high school Algebra in eighth grade for high school credit. Many Crusaders won individual awards in various areas. We are so very proud of all of our students. Blessed Sacrament School would like to welcome our new principal, Mr. Josh Caton, beginning next year. We look forward to his great leadership to help us be the best school that we can be! Everyone is very excited about his appointment! Tell everyone you know about our great school. We are accepting new students at all grade levels. Come and be a Crusader at the Little school making a Big difference! Call 740-345-4125 to take a tour and find out more. Congratulations to our 2018 eighth grade graduates: Jagger Bare Jordyn Basham Maggie Boren Caden Canning Kate Erhard Elisa Halsey Kenna Hauser Gianna Hayes Lacey Holman Dayavionne King Alexander Kozlowski Ryan Robbins Reagan Sheehan Sarah Snider Braydon Vanvelzor

Spiritual Adoption Our parish is participating in a Spiritual Adoption Program until Christmas. We pray monthly for the unborn, for the mothers and fathers, and we will conclude in by honoring the birth of our Lord by donating baby gifts to Heartbeats. Month three: The baby can now squint, swallow and move his tongue. He sleeps and awakens. Fingernails and toenails form and he now has his own unique set of fingerprints. Sensitive to touch, he will tightly grasp an object placed in the palm of his hand. He breathes amniotic fluid to help develop and strengthen the respiratory system, but he gets the oxygen he needs through the umbilical cord. At the beginning of this month, just nine weeks after conception, he can suck his thumb. I can suck my thumb now! Prayer: Lord Jesus, You took our human nature upon Yourself and shared our life, death, childhood and adulthood. Lord Jesus, we ask You to bless and protect the children who are in their mothers womb. Save them from the danger of abortion. Give mothers the grace to sacrifice themselves in body and soul for their children. Help all people to recognize in the unborn child a brother, a sister, saved by You, our redeemer in the womb. Looking to volunteer your time and talents to help grow Blessed Sacrament s long term funding? Contact The Catholic Foundation about becoming a St. John Fisher Steward at 614-443-8893 or email cmckay@catholicfoundation.org. 2018 Bishop s Annual Appeal We have just completed our fourth week of the Bishop s Annual Appeal. Our parish goal of $62,390.89. To date, we have had 142 families who are participating in the campaign, with pledges of $28,089.02. That is 45% of our total goal. Thank you to all who have made a gift or pledge. If you have not yet made your gift to this year s appeal, please consider doing so in the days ahead. Your gift will help to continue the vital work of the various ministries and services that reach so many in need. Please pray to the success of the Appeal and remember no amount is too small.
