PARISH NEWS EMAIL CORRECTION NEEDED During the past few months, the staff has been frequently sending out email blasts with information that we feel you need to know before you come to Mass on the week-end. We have had recent problems with parishioners NOT receiving e-mails sent from our parish database. To correct this problem, please add notifications@ondemandmail.com to your address book so that future SJN e-mails will not go to your Spam Folder. THANK YOU FROM CENTRAL BLOOD BANK Even though it was the last vacation week -end of summer, our parish donated 21 units of blood. Thank you to all the donors for making this drive successful! SHARE THE TREASURE If you treasure the gift of your Catholic faith please extend an invitation to anyone you know who might be interested in the church. Anyone not baptized or baptized in another faith tradition is invited to explore what the church offers. We would love to walk this faith journey with you. Please come and see! Any questions, call Barb Stokes at ext. 13. Our next informal session will be Sunday, September 28 at 10 am in Conf. Room A. EL CAMINO PILGRIMAGE This Tuesday, Sept. 2, Iris and John Parks, their sister-in-law Joyce and myself will begin a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of St James the Apostle in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This is one of the oldest recorded pilgrimage routes for Christians all over Europe, going back at least 1200 years. We will be gone for 6 weeks and hope to accomplish the 500 mile trek from the French border. There are many reasons to go on pilgrimage. The community of walkers, the prayer and reflection along the way are all part of what we hope to experience. This trip will include the parishioners here at St John Neumann in that we will be taking you in prayer with us, and asking you to pray for us along the way. Andy has agreed to put up a map tracking our journey and we will post a blog at http:// fralirisjohnjoyce.blogspot.com. We hope you follow along. At the 11:30 Mass this Sunday, August 31, we will have a small prayer of blessing to send us out on this pilgrimage. Keep us in your prayers - we will need it. Fr. Al TECH, TECH & MORE TECH It s everywhere! Even wonder how much the technology that surrounds us impacts relationships? We know how it can help us learn, keep in touch, meet people, etc. Larry Badaczewski has researched and experienced the many aspects of technology and us. He s willing to share this wealth of info with us - teens, parents and interested adults on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 pm. Tell your friends and come! SAVE YOUR SEAT! Plan now and invite a friend to get on the Lenzner motor coach to Lancaster on Oct 17 & 18. Trip includes transportation, tickets to a spectacular production of Moses, overnight accommodations, 1 dinner & 1 breakfast and a few side trips. Total cost depends on your room choice: single - $321, Double - $258, triple - $237 or quad - $226. A $50 deposit holds your seat. Trip is open to ALL - in parish or not. Registration forms are on the website. Don t miss this chance to see a great show at the theater and God s show of beautiful fall colors as we travel. Could also be an excused absence from school since it is a religious program. Call Barb Stokes for details. Children must come with parent or guardian. APPALACHIA Thinking about it? Dates are June 28 through noon July 4. You must be a current sophomore or older. Teens and adults are all welcome. All skill levels welcome. A parent does not need to accompany a teen but parents are welcome. This trip requires something of you in the preparation all rookies must do a Habitat Day and complete Protecting God s Children requirements if you will be 18 before July 4. Come to the Kick-off on Sunday, Sept. 14th at 10:30. Parents should accompany teens at the kickoff. Contact Laura Juran for more info at 412-367-4264 or lejuran@verizon.net. Space is limited. SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUPS FOR FALL Say yes, you ll be glad you did! Ever since she appeared to three little shepherds at Fatima, Mary has been known as the Lady of the rosary, that unique prayer in which our devotion to her helps us to reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of her son, Jesus Christ. This fall, the Beyond Renew program will be using At Prayer with Mary to guide the journey. It s a wonderful opportunity to join a small group of your fellow parishioners for seven weekly sessions that can bring you closer to Mary and, through her, to Jesus. Sign Up Sunday will be the weekend of September 13-14. We understand how many commitments everyone has and would like to invite you to let us know what day/time works for you. All ages are invited to join, the diversity within the groups enhances the small faith sharing experience If you have questions about the program, groups, etc., you may contact Linda Young (412) 367-9052.

YOUTH MINISTRY PARENT MEETING All parents of high school teens are invited to a brief introductory meeting regarding youth ministry on Wednesday, September 3 rd at 7:00pm. We ll talk about how to get (or keep) your teen involved in youth ministry, what your teen can look forward to this year, and get to know each other a bit. Your presence and input would be greatly appreciated, and is much needed. ENCOUNTER KICK-OFF This year s kick-off for Encounter (for grades 9-12) will be on Sunday, September 21 st following the 11:30am Mass. More details to follow TO THE CORE Do you love the Lord and His Church? Are you willing to love and serve the young people of our parish? Would you prayerfully consider joining one (or both) of our youth ministry core teams? We re looking for individually packaged items like chips, pretzels, cookies, cans of soda (or pop depending on where you are from) and bottled water. Variety packs would be great! I feel alone. Be with me Lord. I have done my best and now another will judge them and another will make demands on them. They will be measured against peers not against my love. Help them to find the wisdom to know their own self worth and to do the right things. Help them find the simplicity to obey and the patience to wait quietly Help them find lunch money, lockers and the right bus and the bathrooms and classrooms And Lord, help them to know they can always come home.
