ORDINARY TIMES of. Dear Church Family, It s the love month again!

Trinity Times. From the Desk of Pastor Rosa. July Greetings special people! 4-What a wonderful worship service this morning!

Transcription:

By now I hope you ve received and read my letter telling you about all the exciting upcoming changes to our Sunday morning schedule. This is a tremendous time for Trinity because it could open up a lot of new possibilities for growth- not just numerically, but spiritually, too. Starting on September 10 we ll have a greater opportunity to learn and worship together. And I hope that in the months to come, more of us will step up to serve the Lord in ministry together, too. Now here s the deal: changes can be made, but it s going to take all of us making our own commitments to make learning, worship, and service a greater priority in our lives. All of this begins with honoring the Sabbath day. Sunday, our Christian Sabbath day, is a day God has given us for worship, study, and rest. It s a day to join together with fellow Christians to worship God together and to study God s Word together. It s a day to put aside all of the other kinds of activity, work, and running around we do the other six days of the week to reconnect with God and God s people. Unfortunately, there are so many distractions in the world that deter us from honoring and enjoying God s gift of Sabbath. That calls for the courage, faith, and conviction to keep the Sabbath- not simply as a rule or an obligation- but to intentionally put aside lesser things so that we can truly benefit from God s gift of Sabbath. Worshipping, learning, reconnecting, resting All of these things are God s blessing to us. As for the other six days of the week, I challenge each of us to take a step into greater service for God. Step into and engage more deeply in a ministry that touches and blesses other people. Each of us has talents, passions and skills, and when God works through those things, they become gifts of the Holy Spirit that further the work of Jesus Christ in and through his church. Just like there are lots of distractions that can deter us from honoring the Sabbath, there are many things that could get in the way of us serving God with our gifts. Busyness, fear, and wasting our energy on things that are not as productive can all get in the way. Yet when we step more intentionally into serving God with the gifts he has given us, the joy and fulfillment we experience are simply unparalleled with anything else in life. Worship, learn, and serve together. My brothers and sisters, step it up and make these things your top priorities. If we do, the results will be a growing, more lively Trinity UMC! And most especially, Jesus Christ will be revealed in us and God will be glorified. Yours in Christ, Pastor Chris

Make sure to be in Worship on Sunday, September 24 for a special service led by our children and youth. The young people have been working very hard to bring you a service to enrich your faith. This is a special invitation to all of the congregation to attend Worship on September 24 to support the efforts of these young people and to spend time in worship with them. We re providing you a financial snapshot of how Trinity is doing right now. Here s the really good news: in terms of meeting expenses, we are well ahead of where we were at this point last year. Our giving is up, and our expenses are holding steady. All monthly expenses are being met (salaries, mortgage, insurance, etc.) Additionally, we are up to date with our Faith Promise contributions. We do, however, have a few challenges. Our payments to the missions we support are lagging just $3,000 where they should be. While we have made six Apportionment payments, we are one payment behind where we should be. Compared to years past that puts us in a much better position than we have been, but we re still aiming to pay our missions and Apportionments payments in full and on time. Thank you very much for your faithful giving. Please keep Trinity and our ministries in your prayers, and allow God to lead you in being a faithful tither and giver to God s work through Trinity UMC. ~ Peter Salvatore, Chairman, Finance Committee

September 2017 page 4 WOW! We had an awesome week at VBS! The Maker Fun Factory theme taught the kids (64 of them) that God made you, God is for you, God is always with you, God will always love you, God made you for a reason! WOW GOD! We learned to watch for God and had quite a few God sightings! We could not have had such a successful week without the support of our church family! We thank you for the donations, time, the many volunteers (28), both youth and adults and mostly your prayers! We are also grateful to 9 other churches in Phoenix, MD and to Calvary UMC in Annapolis for sharing extra materials and donations! WE truly saw God at work & everyone learned that were built for a purpose! We look forward to next year and what God has in store for us! A special thank you to Mary Mix, Cindy Sawyer and Pam Hannah for putting together a fantastic, God-filled Vacation Bible School. As part of Maker Fun Factory VBS, we participated in an Operation Kid-to- Kid mission project that gave us the opportunity to help children in remote villages of Peru have access to safe, clean drinking water. The monies raised with go to help dig wells in small jungle villages throughout the rainforests of Peru. For only $5, a child in Peru can have clean water for an entire year! During Maker Fun. During VBS week as well as the Noisy Offering, we collected $446.35 which will help over 89 children have clean drinking water for a year. Thanks for your generous giving to this live saving mission. Join us for our 2017 ASP Mission Trip, October 4-8 to Appalachia, to a little place called Guyan Valley, West Virginia. It sits deep in coal mining country where residents earn low or no income, and conditions are hard to believe for one who has not been there. Should you have a few minutes in front of your computer visit ASPhome.org and see what is happening there or talk with a person who has gone on the trip previously. If you would like to join us, please contact Bill Finagin at (410) 353-2622. If you are unable to join us but would like to contribute to the expenses of the trip then mark you contribution ASP TRIP, drop it in the collection plate, or leave it in the Church office.

September 2017 page 5 OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: The children's Sunday School classes are collecting shoe box items on a monthly basis this year, with an emphasis on specific items each month. Then in October they will have a Packing Party! If you would like to contribute to their efforts, the collection boxes are located in both Sunday School rooms. The items for August are: clothes socks, flip-flops, gloves, hats, tee shirts, etc. (ages 2-14) **New Items Only** Also, we are going to need $9 per box for shipping and handling. If any members of the congregation would be prepared to sponsor a box, please contact Carol Dakin at (443) 758-6235 or tianca2@hotmail.com. Thank you. On Sunday, July 16, we collected $247.09 for the Noisy Offering. We are a over halfway to funding Well #30.
