INTERNET INFORMATION E-Mail: We re still actively collecting the e-mail addresses of members so that we can start communicating electronically. The long-term goal for this is three-fold. First, we d like to be able to get specific information of interest to particular people in the congregation rather than having folks wade through all the news and announcements (e.g. target an e-mail note to council members for upcoming meeting, target Sunday School families for updates on Sunday School happenings, and so forth). Second, we d like to be able to get time sensitive information out to all members quickly (e.g. closings or cancellations during bad weather, deaths in the congregation, or other items that everyone should have access to quickly). And finally, we d like to be able to reduce some of the paper communication we ve been doing as a way to economize. So, please help us! As I have noted in announcements, this is for internal use only, and will not be published or shared (unless you want it published in the directory). Facebook: As we continue to look for ways to connect with folks outside the congregation, there is reason to believe that Facebook is still an effective tool. We have updated the Mt. Calvary Facebook group, and will be using that in our communications efforts. If you are a Facebook user, visit our page (Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church), like us, and indicate that you want notifications then the magic will happen. And if you like something you see on our page, feel free to share it with others.. MISSIONARIES MARTIN AND MARIE DICKE TO VISIT -- Next Sunday, September 18 th missionaries Martin and Marie Dicke will visit Mt. Calvary. Martin has served the church as a musician for over 30 years, but now is following in his parent's footsteps and returning to serve in Papua New Guinea where he was born. They are traveling the country building a network of support before they head overseas. Between worship services they will offer a presentation entitled "Back to Papua New Guinea." For more information or to support them directly, visit www.lcms.org/dicke. EVER CONSIDERED BEING A PASTOR OR A DEACONESS? If so, the Rev. Bill Wrede from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis would like to meet with you at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6801 N. Allen Road in Peoria, on Saturday, September 24 th, between 3:00 and 7:00 pm. The Rev. Wrede is interested in meeting with prospective students of all ages elementary school age through adults. Appointments are individual, informal, and family/friends are welcome to come with you. Appointments are not necessary but encouraged. If you are interested in scheduling a specific time, please contact the Rev. Wrede at 314/505-7221 or wredew@csl.edu. FROM CAMP CILCA Camp CILCA s Golf Outing Camp CILCA's annual Whippoorwill Golf Outing will be held September 23, 2016 at the Rail Golf Course in Sherman, IL. Check-in begins at 11:30 am with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm. To register send $60 to CID Golf Fundraiser, Grace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 493, Paris, IL 61944-0493. E-mail individual or group to pastordan@grics.net or call 217-466-1215. Registration deadline is September 19, 2016. 4

+ Christian Education at Mt. Calvary+ Sunday: YOUTH: Sunday School: Today is Promotion Sunday At the Jordan River, led by Joshua, Israel leaves the desert in this week s Sunday School lesson Entering the Promised Land. In Baptism, led by Christ, we leave behind the desert of sin, death, and Satan so we may enter into the promised land of heaven. Parents might ask, What did the Israelites create to remind them of their crossing into the Promised Land? What do you have to remind you of your Baptism? ADULTS: Adult Class A Simple Way to Pray This short guide to prayer was written by Luther for his barber. It sets forth both a challenging call to attentiveness in our prayer life, as well as comforting us with the reassuring promise that we are heard no matter how deep or shallow our prayers may be. Meets in the Parish Hall during the Bible Study hour. Women s Class: The ladies have been attending Pastor s class. Please feel free to join us in the Parish Hall during the Bible Study Hour. Wednesday: Men s Bible Study: St. Luke: Join us as we undertake a trip through Luke s Gospel. The particular focus of Luke is the grace of God s kingdom: mercy for sinners, the inclusion of the outcast, and the preaching of repentance and forgiveness. We meet at the IHOP on Big Hollow Rd. (across from Target), Wednesdays at 6:30 am. Wednesday Evening Bible Study: Dying to Live: The Wednesday Evening Study Group, meets at 6:30 pm to discuss Dying to Live by the Rev. Dr. Harold Senkbeil. This accessible little book serves as a kind of primer to the basics of the faith. There s a DVD to help spark discussion. There s still time to join us -- all material provided.. Thursday: Afternoon Bible Study: Exodus: Join us as we turn to the book of Exodus. So often the story of God s deliverance of His people from Egypt is told as a confrontation between Moses and Pharaoh. But the heart of Exodus is God coming down to take His people s burdens as His Own, and the whole action of Exodus is a prelude to Christ. We meet at 1:00 pm in the Parish Hall. 5
