Welcome to Saint David s United Church

Lighting of the Christ Candle Leader: A keeper of the Law walked up to Jesus and asked him, Teacher, what is the greatest commandment? Jesus replied, Love God with all that you are.

Lighting of the Christ Candle Leader: As the man turned away to think about what he had heard, Jesus said, Wait, there is a second one just like the first: Love your neighbour in the same way you are to love yourself.

Lighting of the Christ Candle Leader: The great commandment shines on and shines through all things: the writings of the law, the words of the prophets, every moment of our lives! All: In every moment, Christ s light shines! Alleluia!

Hymn: VU 264 Immortal, Invisible

Immortal, Invisible Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessèd, most glorious, The Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest - to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.

Thou reignest in glory, thou rulest in light; Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight. All praise we would render, O help us to see tis only the splendor of light hideth thee!

Leader: Children of the Creator, dancers with the Spirit, disciples of Christ, let us walk together, People: As neighbours, as siblings, as friends.

Leader: Living with respect for creation, carried to places of challenge and dream, called to love God, other and self, let us walk together, People: As neighbours, as siblings, as friends.

Leader: As people of gratitude, let us give thanks for what we ve been given; as people of grace, let us celebrate that all is a gift of God; as people of generosity, let us share it with all who have need. Let us walk together, People: As neighbours, as siblings, as friends.

Leader: And, with our gratitude, our grace, our generosity, and our togetherness. People: Let us worship God!

Lord, Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary Pure and holy, tried and true. With thanksgiving I ll be a living Sanctuary for you.

All: God, make us lenses for your light and love. Let it flow through us, that we might be focuses, shining brightly in places of gloom. Where there is need, help us to be tangible examples of your love. Where there is loss, help us walk together, sharing all that you have given.

Where we hold tight, help us to release our grip, that generosity of spirit might transform us and the world. We ask that you continue to bless us, God, as we come together to worship you. Amen.

Lord, Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary Pure and holy, tried and true. With thanksgiving I ll be a living Sanctuary for you.

Hymn: VU 585 Jesus Bids Us Shine

Jesus Bids Us Shine Jesus bids us shine With a pure, clear light, Like a little candle Burning in the night; In this world is darkness So let us shine You in your small corner, And I in mine.

Jesus bids us shine First of all for him; Well he sees and knows it If our light grows dim; Jesus walks beside us To help us shine-- You in your small corner, And I in mine.

Jesus bids us shine, Then, for all around; Many kinds of darkness In the world are found: Sin, and want and sorrow; So we must shine, You in your small corner, And I in mine.

Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying Lord, listen to your children praying, Lord, send your Spirit in this place; Lord, listen to your children praying, Send us love, send us power, send us grace!

The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Walk with me, I will walk with you And build the land That God has planned Where love shines through.

Hymn: VU 499 O Christ, the Word Incarnate

O Christ, the Word Incarnate O Christ, the Word Incarnate, O wisdom from on high, O truth unchanged, unchanging, O light of our dark sky: We praise you for the radiance That from the hallowed page, A lantern to our footsteps, Shines on from age to age.

Genesis 9:8-17
