Your generosity is appreciated. From a Parishioner: Tithing has taught me what a Heart of Generosity feels like. Good Deed for the Week from a 7th Grader: I raked my neighbors leaves without being asked. REMEMBER GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH IN YOUR WILL Lead Usher Needed For the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Masses The role of Usher is one of Liturgical Hospitality. Often times the Ushers are the first and last person people see upon entering and leaving church. The role of Usher enhances people s participation in the Liturgy and their perception of the parish. Ushers welcome people, take up the collection, provide support and direction in emergencies, invite people to take up the Offertory gifts, direct Eucharistic Ministers to parishioners unable to approach the altar for Communion, and distribute bulletins following Mass. We have a particular need for a lead usher at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturdays. If you are interested, please contact the Parish Office at 761-1167. CHOIR SEASON WILL BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER The Good Shepherd Adult Choir will begin the 2016-2017 season with rehearsal on Thursday, September 8, from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. in the choir loft. New members are always welcome. If you enjoy singing and would like to participate more fully in the liturgical life of the parish, please contact Mr. Ciucci at 236-4714 or call the Parish Office. The choir sings at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays, at other special liturgies throughout the year, and occasionally at local nursing homes, hospitals, etc. Please consider joining this dedicated group of parishioners. Children s Liturgy of the Word needs help! Please contact the Parish Office if you are available to help. Virtue of Humility The catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that pride is the deadliest of the capital sins. The reason for this is not simply because pride is opposed to the virtue of humility but because of how it leads to other sins and vices. (CCC, #1866, 2540) Through a false perception of others, pride makes a person fall easily into other sins. We ordinarily think of the sin of Adam and Eve as the sin of disobedience. But their fault was pride. They chose to rely on their own resources rather than be disposed to God s will. For us, this might take the form of looking down on others, or overestimating the self and acting contrary to God s plan as Adam and Eve did. But, humility is the Christian virtue which disposes a person to rely on God, and such is a mark of the wise person who waits on God to exalt him or her trusting in God s providence. Being humble means we despise no one and not doubting our own dignity since we rely on God in whose image we are created. Sirach tells us that the humble person finds favor in the sight of the Lord, not because favor is a reward for humility, but because humility is to abandon our self-assertion and allow God to act where we can do nothing. Father Ben Faneye, O.P. Dear Father Burger & Parishioners of Good Shepherd, Thank you so much for your June 6, 2016 donation of toiletries to the families of the Interfaith Shelter. Your willingness to give to those who are less fortunate demonstrates great love and humility, which are qualities that Catholic Charities seeks to uphold. We thank you for thinking of our shelter in such a special way. Your kind generosity will bless our families. With deepest appreciation, Lisa Peck, Program Director RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process through which unbaptized persons who have the desire to become members of the Catholic Church, and persons baptized in other Christian traditions who wish to embrace the Catholic faith, enter a faith journey, which will lead to their reception as full members of the Catholic Community at the Easter Vigil. If you or someone you know wishes to join the Catholic Church or simply desires to learn more about the Church, please call the Parish Office at 761-1167 and leave a name and phone number or complete the form below and drop it in the collection basket. Classes will be held every Monday from 7:00-9:00 p.m., starting on September 19, 2016, in the All Purpose Room of the Church. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Taize Style, on The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on Wednesday, September 14, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Come join us in adoration and praise of the mercies of Our Lord in this unique setting the night of the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross! What is it? Taize (pronounced taz-zay) adoration is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in church, prominently lit by beautiful candlelight and accompanied by songs from the French Taize community which through repeating a single verse or two, draw the human spirit into deeper communion with our Creator. Let our Lord wrap you in His breathtaking presence with the sweet soothing sounds of gentle singing with flute and organ accompaniment alternating with silence and spoken word from scripture. Come see for yourself! Spend an hour, or whatever time you can, in adoration in the Taize style before the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. Would you like a candle lit on the altar the night of adoration? Candles will be blessed before the adoration and will be available for pickup after the service. If you are able, please include a free-will offering to cover the cost of the candle(s). Taize adoration is sponsored by the Legion of Mary. Contact th Parish Office at 761-1167 for more information. ============================================================================================== Name: Number of candles (glass vase): Intentions: Please return to the Parish Office or in an envelope in the offertory basket. TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME MASS OF REMEMBRANCE September 15, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The Good Shepherd Parish invites all families who have experienced the loss of a child (through miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth or early death) to join us in the Mass of Remembrance on Thursday, September 15, The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, at 7:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Church. The Mass is the most powerful form of healing prayer. Please take this opportunity to remember your children, to name them if you have not, and to celebrate the fulfillment of God s plan of having each human family incorporated into God s spiritual family. By naming the child, you are witnessing to the dignity of their life, no matter how brief. Those who have not been given a name can be listed with your last name, such as Baby Jones. The names will be brought to the altar to be remembered by our parish family. Names of children who have been submitted in previous years will be included in this year s remembrance. We welcome you to submit your child s name for remembrance by mailing it to the Parish Office, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011 and marking the envelope Mass of Remembrance.
