Monks-on-a-mission join the annual Mother Cabrini 50-mile pilgrimage in Denver. 2 Dear Friends and Benefactors, Beneath the Banner of St. Joseph the twelve weeks of Summer were a steady march forward with no less than 12 Ora et Labora camps for men and boys. Less is more was the happy refrain from the true heroes of these unique camps: the men who took a week off from work to personally bring the boys to the Monastery. The new requirement limit of a baker s dozen maximum number of boys plus adult guardians, usually the boys own fathers, made for more one-on-one attention to detail in the smaller camp format. The boys teamed up with the monks to launch the attack on a myriad of projects both boy-size and man-size. Thanks to the extra support of many discreet benefactors over 150 boys were able to come and live as monks for a week, to pray with all their heart, labor with their hands and even study in evening classes given by monks taking turns to lift the veil of the monastic way of life, with the question and answer session usually going well into the summer night. On farewell day most of the boys promised they would return again soon, and in response to that big question, what are you going to be when you grow up...? The answer roared unanimous! At Summer s end our future priests are back at their studies in the Seminary and our community perseveres in the permanent school of Ora et Labora. Please help us to continue! Sincerely in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Cyprian
Three more men leave the world and as novices are eager to enter the Benedictine family. Monks of the future are all smiles to get a head start on their vocation with a little hammer practice. To the hammer all things are nails, and to boys all things are hammers...! 3
