Lent is a 40-day season marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration. The 40-day period represents Christ s time of temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. Lent asks believers to set aside a time each year for similar fasting, marking an intentional season of focus on Christ s life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection. Act & Pray for Peace It's not life that counts but the fortitude you bring into it. The opening report for the 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) in today s bulletin details the many ways our annual appeals helps us offer Signs of Hope of God s work here on earth. The CMAA supports 30 ministries that benefit so many throughout the Diocese of Joliet. As you will read in the opening report, gifts to the CMAA make a difference to members of our parish as well as our friends and neighbors and our brothers and sisters in need. Please complete the pledge card you received from the Diocese of Joliet last month and return it in the provided envelope or bring it with you to Mass next weekend. Our parish s goal for the 2019 CMAA is $55,400.00. If we raise more than this goal, 70 percent of the amount over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is a great benefit for our parish! Thank you for prayerfully reflecting on your gift to this year s CMAA and making the most generous pledge possible. St. Bernard Parish Page 4 Homer Glen, Illinois
