Order of Worship Prelude Sonata No. 6, Finale: Andante Felix Mendelssohn Welcome and greetings Joe Donnovin, ruling elder * Call to worship taken from Psalm 89 Leader: O Lord God Almighty, who is like you? All: You are mighty, O Lord, and your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. Leader: Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. All: Praise be to the Lord forever! Amen and Amen. * Hymn of praise 115, vv. 1, 3, 5 All Creatures of Our God and King * Prayer of adoration Call to confession based on Daniel 9 Leader: O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. All: Now, our God, hear our prayers. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! Silent prayers of confession Assurance of God s pardoning grace taken from 1 Timothy 1 and 1 Peter 2 Here is a trustworthy statement that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners he himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; for by his wounds we have been healed. For once we were like sheep going astray, but now we have returned to the Shepherd and overseer of our souls. * Hymn of assurance 535 O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory The King of Love My Shepherd Is Chancel Choir and Girls Ensemble The King of love my Shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never. I nothing lack if I am his, and he is mine forever. Where streams of living water flow, my ransomed soul he leadeth; and where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth. In death s dark vale I fear no ill, with thee, dear Lord, beside me; thy rod and staff my comfort still, thy cross before to guide me. And so through all the length of days, thy goodness faileth never; Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house forever. text by Henry W. Baker, 1868, Irish melody, arr. However, we did not quite make our stated goal of 80% of the budget, and thus out of prudence and a desire to follow God s direction, we have decided to revise the budget and delay our search for a seventh pastor who would oversee missions. Our new total budget is $4.88 million which is $111,000 less than originally planned, but still represents a 5.1% increase over the 2018 budget. With the revised budget, we currently stand at 80% of the 2019 budget pledged. We are thankful to God for his generosity through his people at LMPC. Jonah 1:17-2:10 17 But the Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights. 1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said: In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. 3 You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. 4 I said, I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O Lord my God. 7 When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. 8 Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. 9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord. 10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
