Let us silently prepare our hearts and allow others the same opportunity.) *We invite you to rise in body or in spirit Chimes Prelude: Our Father, Who Art in Heaven J.S. Bach Words of Welcome and Announcements Introit: Lead Me, Lord Samuel S. Wesley *Call to Worship God, you are holy, Ps. 22:3-5 enthroned on the praises of Israel. In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted you, and you delivered them. To you they cried, and they were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. God, you are holy. All praise to you, now and forever! *Hymn No. 307 God of Grace and God of Glory CWM RHONDDA *Invitation to Confession *Prayer of Confession We know the commandments: Mark 10:19-22 You shall not murder; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother. We are sure we follow them, but instead, we cannot let go of the things we think we need or what we think is important. We do not follow you, or love you, O God, with all our hearts, our minds, our strength. We refrain from giving our whole selves to you. Page 2
*Kyrie Forgive our disobedience, our lack of commitment, and our desire to focus on material things instead of on your will for us. In the name of our Teacher, Jesus Christ, who gave his whole life for the sake of the gospel. Amen. *Assurance of Forgiveness *Gloria Patri Glory to God, No. 581 *The Peace Since God has forgiven us in Christ, we also ought to forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Please greet those around you Prayer for Illumination Your word, O God, is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. May your Word be for us today life and action, beacon and gavel. In the name of the Living Word we pray. Amen. Page 3

The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *The Doxology Glory to God, No. 606 *Prayer of Thanksgiving *The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. *Hymn No. 475 Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing NETTLETON *Charge & Benediction Choral Benediction: I Can Do All Things Through Christ Eibernita Clark Postlude Prelude in C Major J.S. Bach Questions for Reflection How do you talk to God when you feel that God is not listening? How can you be a better disciple, considering the radical words of Jesus in Mark that you have to sell all you own, give the money to the poor, and then follow him? Household Prayer: Morning As I open my eyes, I want to feel your Word, living and active and guiding my way. I want to live knowing that what is impossible for me is possible for you. I want to live with the certitude that those who are first will be last, and the last will be first. Give me the courage and the hope to live with your words in my mind for the rest of the day. In Jesus Christ, my teacher, I pray. Amen. Household Prayer: Evening As I lay down to rest, I look at the times in my day when my heart has felt like fainting, and I have felt like arguing, but I do so with the understanding that even in my deepest sorrow you were with me. Thank you, God, for understanding and for helping this human being who, if imperfectly, strives to seek out your face, to follow your will, and to understand your Word. Give me the rest I need to live day by day and step by step. In the name of my example and my strength, Jesus Christ. Amen. Page 5
