Knights of Columbus - Fourth Degree - Marquette Assembly # 1197 Knights Knews February, 2016 Message from Most Reverend Robert J Banks Bishop Emeritus, Diocese of Green Bay Faithful Friar SK Most Rev. Bishop Robert J. Banks Dear Brother Knights, As I prepare this letter, the Christmas tree is still standing in my living room, but when you receive this letter, Lent will be just around the corner. That is a short time between the joyful celebration of the Lord s birth and the serious remembering of His last days. For our Lord, there were probably about thirty or thirty-five years between Bethlehem and Calvary; all of them for us, from crib to cross. The few weeks of Lent offers us an opportunity to reflect on the Lord s life and to somehow share in all He went through for us. The Church uses the Season of Lent to bring us closer to the Lord, but ultimately each of us has to put our mind to that. We are helped by the Lenten liturgy and the observance of abstinence for Lenten Fridays, which we can so easily forget nowadays. It can also help to make our own personal decision to do something extra during Lent. So let s pray that this will be a good Season of Lent for all of us. Sincerely in Christ, Bishop Banks Faithful Navigator's Message Reminder that our four core principals need to be reflected in all the good works that we do. Charity - Our Catholic faith teaches us to "Love thy neighbor as thyself". Unity - None of us is as good as all of us. Fraternity - We watch out for and take care of one another. Patriotism - We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. The Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens. Thanks to all, 42 Sir Knights and Ladies, who attended our January Dinner/ Meeting at Riverside Ballroom. There were very interesting talks by SK Tom Mahoney and SK Jack Wrbanich. Deacon Tom also lead us in prayer before our great meal and at the closing of the event. Please be extra careful and safe, with the onset of the frigid weather. Also, whenever possible, check on your neighbor and those you know who live alone. Vivat Jesus!
