Beloved, Here at Bethany, many people think of Africa Day as the only day we celebrate our core value of heritage. I offer to you that there are others days that we celebrate heritage as well. Today, we are celebrating and encouraging fatherhood as a heritage from God. I say Happy Father s Day to all who are involved in the various kinds of fatherhood. One of the things I am most sensitive about is someone giving me a gift or reward that turns into an assignment. Ironically, fatherhood has turned out to be one of the best responsibilities I have been involved in, because it is a reward from God. Psalm 127:3 (NIV) uses the words heritage and reward to describe children as coming from God. While I recognize that no one in attendance has ever had a perfect father, or in fact, has never been a perfect father, it is still of vital importance that we take the time to applaud and encourage those who are endeavoring to bring their children up in a way that honors God. Perhaps you re here today, and your children have all grown, but the heritage of being a father never lessens. What a privilege it is to have an eternal reward from the Lord in this great journey of life! One of the ways that fatherhood changed me was to increase my thirst for a closer relationship with God. In turn, I pray that I can continue to share this thirst with those that view me as a father, either biologically or spiritually. Next week we will continue in the I Am Thirsty sermon series, as we grow closer and deeper with the Lord. Still thirsty and loving it. With a Fatherly Shepherd s love, Pastor Lacey
