Our KofC Members in need of our prayers Sick H. Daniel Froelich, Fred Glocke, Art Gratton Deceased FINANCIAL SECRETARY S REPORT FOR JULY2014 No Report this month Brothers, The council has a new mailing address: KofC 12851 16772 W. Bell Rd Ste 110-112 Surprise AZ 85374-9702 Dear Brother Knights: Spiritual Director Corner "Thy Kingdom come..." In the prayer that the Lord Jesus taught us, we pray first for the Kingdom of God and then for our daily bread (His grace) to recognize the Kingdom and cooperate in bringing it to earth each day. In other words, we pray, "Wisdom of God, be with me always!" The Lord God willed us into being that we might be with Him for all eternity. He did not create us simply for economic or political success because they can only be worthy when pursued in Charity and virtue. Therefore, I cannot remain silent regarding the manner in which our Council operates and behaves. I have witnessed declining attendance at our meetings since the time I became your Spiritual Director. I'm not surprised. The meeting of June 19 was shameful, scandalous and embarrassing. Decisions regarding prudential Council affairs must be clearly understood not only by officers but also by the members before motions are brought to a vote. The issue of relocating our meetings is something that every member has a valid right question. No officer should silence discussion nor a member show disrespect for an officer - or our pastor, for that matter. Newer members ask me, "What's wrong with this KC Council 12851?" Brothers, if it's just about what they experienced on June 19 they will not associate with us and our efforts to build the Kingdom will be made more difficult. Like me, don't like me. I DON'T CARE, but I love my brothers too much to let behavior like this go unmentioned. I humbly ask you to meditate on the words of St. Peter concerning Christian conduct; 1 Peter 3: 8-12. Vivat Jesus!! Dcn. Dave JULY MEETING is July 17th at 7:30pm in the Parish Hall!!!

Grand Knights Message Brothers, And the righteous will ask, Lord, when did we see you thirsty and give you to drink [ ] and He will reply, When you did it to the least among you, you did it to me. (Mt 25:46 ff) YDITM. This simple motto was Blessed Mother Theresa s for much of her life; for more than twenty years now, it has been mine too. I appropriated it from her; and like her, it has become my world-view. More importantly, it has become my heaven-view, my path, I hope, that will lead me to one day see Our Lord face-to-face. I propose it become our Knight-view. I propose that it become the view by which we lead our lives as sons of The Father, as sons of Holy Mother Church, as husbands and fathers too, as members of our Order, more specifically, as members of our council. Jesus told His beloved apostles that by fretting we could not add a single moment to the time God has allotted for us in this life; I believe we can do much to shorten the time He has set aside for us, through accident, carelessness and neglect of ourselves, or through countless other possibilities. The one thing we cannot do, however, is to add time. We have what we have and we are accountable before Him for our use or abuse of it. What this means for us as knights, I believe, is simply this: We need, both as individual human beings and as a council, to invest the most precious commodity we have, our time, to the service of others. It is too easy to give dollars; most of us can always come up with a few extra. In our society, it is easy enough to do: you can cut back on eating meals out, going to movies, drinking or smoking in other words, by a little self-denial. Time? That s something else. We have been most generous here at giving of our dollars. We have also been most generous in giving of our time many of us, that is. What I propose for us as a council is that we give more generously of our time, to those whose faces are, after all, really His face in disguise. I would like to see us start doing a once a month service commitment to assist as a council at Andre House and/or SVdP s dining halls. We could meet up here in the afternoon and carpool down there, hopefully have Mass there if a priest is available (you cannot give someone else what you do not yourself possess, and what better to possess than Him before we begin the evening there), and then serve food and smiles and kind words of love and encouragement to our sisters and brothers who are down on their luck. Who knows what good your simple smile and words of encouragement might give to her/him as you serve up a warm meal and a cup o Joe. I know one who knows: God Himself in high heaven. Perhaps we can team up with our own SVdP to distribute water to the thirsty, along with rosaries. Yes, I d like us to buy perhaps 10,000 small inexpensive rosaries, have them all blessed, and hand them out with the bottles of water we distribute. Yes, I know already that most will end up in the gutter; most of the remainder will end up in trash dumpsters. Oh well. One or two may end up in the hands of someone who will recall when he/she was taught Our Mother s rosary and may begin by saying just one Hail Mary in desperation. You know what they say, one leads to two and so on. One soul, one soul at a time. Could you imagine waking in heaven and having that one soul come up to you and say that he/she would not be there if it had not been for you. One soul. Not impossible to imagine that one soul being a future priest or deacon, sister or brother. Not unheard of. One soul. I will be talking more about this at our July meeting the week after next, but I d like you to chew on this. Surely there is more we can do to give of our time, more we can do to live YDITM.

Grand Knights Message Continued Gents, we have approximately 175 brother knights in our council. Only about thirty-five or so typically show up at any one meeting. Most of them are the same faces each month, and I m most grateful to see each of you again and again; you have become the backbone of our council. Some work at night, some of us are elderly now and find it difficult to get around, or perhaps, just to get behind the wheel at night. We can help; we can put together teams to provide transportation, at least from time to time. They say also that charity begins at home. While a self-serving attitude perhaps, it does lend itself to the principle of family caring for family. We are a family too. We care for our own. If you are homebound and would like to see the friendly face of a brother knight every once in a blue moon, let us know. We just might be able to lasso a blue moon or two and stop by now and then to say howdy. Those of you who could be free and here if you thought it worthwhile, what is it that would make it worthwhile? Getting involved more in matters that really count? How about one of my ideas mentioned above. Friday night pizza gatherings? Got em coming. Saturday morning Knight & Daughter (Granddaughter -?) / Knight & Son/Grandson breakfasts? Got them coming too. Picnics? We ve tossed them on the burner; they re coming. Spiritual encouragement? Got that coming too, in the way of special homilies I m going to ask our very own Dcn. Dave to give from time to time (don t snitch me off on this to him yet, fellas, because I haven t recruited him to do this as yet, though knowing Dcn. Dave, it is not in his DNA to say no). Retreats? Yeah, we will put them together just for brothers from our council. Something for everyone, a little spiritual, a little fun, a lot YDITM. There is so much more I want to toss out to you, and I will in the months to come. But, I m sure a wise man once said that one should know when it is time to shut up. And so it is. If I may offer a prayer over you, let me ask Almighty God to let someone else see His face in yours tomorrow and every tomorrow of your days. May you know health, happiness, prosperity and most of all, heaven. God bless Brothers. Vivat Jesus, Mark Hannah Grand Knight
