The Innovator May 2012 NEWS Welcoming Guests Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7 Most Sundays we are blessed to have guests worshipping with us. A guest is someone who is expected, welcomed, and loved. A guest is a person to whom we extend our best hospitality. We are all God's children. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ; therefore we are all one family. It is our hope that everyone who steps in the door of North experiences the love of God and feels welcomed into a loving family of believers.

There are several things you can do to welcome our guests. If you are physically fit and can arrive a few minutes early, consider parking on the street or at the far end of the parking lot. We want to save the parking spaces closest to the door for our guests, those with special needs, families with small children and anyone who is running late. If you see a guest, warmly greet them with a smile and ask if you can help them. If you discover it is their first time to North, walk with them to worship, point out the location of the coatroom, restrooms and Meisenheimer Hall for fellowship. If they have children, tell them about our Sunday School and where the rooms are located by age. Also, tell them about available child care, or introduce them to another young family, or Renee who can assist them. After worship look around you, is there anyone you do not know? Introduce yourself. If they are guests, encourage them to fill out a yellow connection card located in the pews in the Sanctuary, at the round tables in Meisenheimer Hall, and at the Welcome Station in the Gathering Space. Completed cards go in the offering or the box on the Welcome Station. Invite them to enjoy refreshments (no charge for our first time guests) and fellowship with you. Invite them to join you and others in conversation. Before you leave the guest, introduce them to another person. Studies have revealed that most guests will decide if they will return in the first seven minutes of their visit depending on the hospitality they experience from members. We want to share God's love with everyone. Please show your finest hospitality to our guests. Sunday Coupon Flyers Wanted to Help Store to Door! I have recently volunteered with the Store to Door non-profit organization. The mission of Store to Door is "enhancing opportunities for aging adults to live independently". Store to Door does this by shopping and delivering grocery orders to seniors that are unable to get out of their homes. HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP! Please donate your Sunday coupon flyers (P&G, SmartSource, Red Plum). After you have clipped the Sunday coupons you will use, bring the remaining flyer coupons to North. A bin will be placed near the food shelf cart to collect them. Please bring coupon flyers...no need to cut any coupons. (We cannot redeem any store-specific coupons.) I will pick up the flyers and see that they get to our Store to Door coupon-clipper team. If you have any questions about couponing or about Store to Door, I'd be happy to discuss. THANKS! Mary Morrisette Twins Game Don Schroeder has a block of Skyline Deck Seats available for the Twins - Oakland game for Saturday, July 14. Game time 6:10 pm. Cost for the game and bus transportation is $42.00 per person and must be paid for by June 20 to Don. See Don at church or call 777-6145.

Spring Tea The date for our Spring Tea is fast approaching. So Ladies, make your plans now and invite your neighbors, friends, and relatives for Saturday, May 19 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Cost is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for those 12 and under. Reservations will be taken on Sunday, May 6 and May 13 before both services. Please join us for tea, refreshments, a Wedding Dress fashion show, music and door prizes. DON'T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR HATS! (We could use more Wedding Dresses) If you have any questions, please contact Janet Schroeder at 651-777-6145. The Life Commission Saturday, June 2 9am-1pm Where? Church Parking Lot Annual North Church Rummage Sale Sign up to sell your stuff!! 15 dollars will get you one parking stall to display and sell your stuff. The parking stall fee will be given to a mission (TBD). Rain or shine, join in selling your stuff and making a little extra cash on the side for yourself! Contact Stephanie at steph.glaser@yahoo.com or 651-226-7374 to sign up. Also, a sign up sheet will be in the Gathering Space. Showboat Adventure Save the date for your adventure on the Showboat this summer. It will be Saturday afternoon, August 11. Show time is 2:30, but we need to be there by 2. Tickets are $19.00 each. We have rows C, D, and a few in E. We have the option to go to Joseph's before for lunch at 12:30. And this year's melodrama is "Vampire!" Watch for the sign up sheet in the narthex. The Endowment Fund Have you thought about leaving a legacy to North Church? The Endowment Fund can be specified in your estate plans and will generate funds for North Church's use for years to come. You can also give to the fund as a memorial or as a tribute. The committee thanks you for your consideration. Financial Assistance for Clearwater The endowment committee and/or a few members of our congregation are eager to offer financial assistance to any member in need so they can attend camp. They are glad to invest in the blessings that abound from the camp experience. Talk to Pastor James or Bruce Beck of the Endowment Committee if your child wants to attend camp but you are short on the funds for the camp.

Summer Camps at Presbyterian Clearwater Forest Clearwater offers exceptional camps year round for all ages. This great facility offers camps for individuals and families while enjoying the beauty of God's creation. Summer week long Discovery Camp (grades 3-6), Adventure Camp (grades 7-9), Retreats and Adult Camp have been favorites of several members of our congregation for years. This summer we will again have several children and youth attending a week long camp. The camps are offered throughout the summer. Information and registration can be found at www.clearwaterforest.org. Sean Bearth, Garrett Colton and Spencer & Abigail York will be attending Discovery and Adventure Camp #6, August 12-18. Sarah Bearth will likely attend Camp #2 July 8-14. Talk to Pastor James if you would like to carpool and attend with others from our church this summer. Synod School 2012 Join Pastor James, Spencer and Abigail as they attend their seventh Synod School. The worship is inspiring, the classes are spiritually nourishing, the fellowship is exceptional and there are many fun activates and crafts, all on a beautiful campus. Over fifty classes are offered for adults. Children and youth have their own special classes, worship and fellowship. Pastor James will join a wonderful faculty and will be working with the youth. Spencer and Abigail are eager to attend again. Please consider joining the York family this summer for Synod School July 22-27 at Buena Vista University, Storm Lake Iowa. More information can be found at http://www.lakesandprairies.org/school.html. Dear Pastor James, Thank You Thank you to Pastor James and all those who helped make the Memorial Service for Margaret Zoya a true celebration of her life. The message, music, luncheon, flowers, and support of family and friends helped make a difficult day easier. Marge's Family Dear North Church Friends, Thanks so much for all of your thoughts, prayers, and deeds during my recent surgery. A special thanks for the prayer shawl and for those who made it possible. Your outreach is overwhelming. You are appreciated! Dear Congregation, God Bless, Dick Ferrazzo Thank you for supporting the clothing drive. We packed many boxes of clothes and delivered them to Dayton Avenue Presbyterian Church in St. Paul to be giving to people who can use them. Sincerely, Presbyterian Women

Dear North Church, North Presbyterian Church has some of the most wonderful caring people that I have ever known. Thank you for the phone calls, visits, and cards which I received during my recovery from knee surgery. I am doing great, but I realize I won't be on the bike trail for a few weeks. Pastor James' visits were very much appreciated. North is a special church. Dear Members of North Presbyterian Church, Roy Ginn Thank you for your donation of 55 pounds of food items which helped our food shelf's participation in the Minnesota Food Share March Campaign. We distribute over 30,000 pounds of food per month. Your donation will help us to serve families in our area.
