Adat Chaim News April 2019 Pleasant Hill Center 10989 Red Run Blvd. Suite 109 Owings Mills, Maryland 21117 410-833-7485 (SHUL) Email us at adatchaim18@gmail.com www.adatchaim.com Facebook- Adat Chaim Synagogue (like us!) From the Editor s Desk Wendy Raith, Editor wgraith@gmail.com Hello and welcome to the new Adat Chaim newsletter. I have been assigned with the task of creating the shul newsletter and emailing it out to all of you. Please bear with me as I learn all the tricks of the trade, and include all the important information. I would like to add a community section to this letter. If anyone knows of something happening in the Baltimore/ Carroll County area and thinks it would be interesting to some of the congregants, please email me at wgraith@gmail.com with the information, and I will include it in the newsletter. I would like all articles, etc. by the 18 th of the month and am willing to wait until the 25 th of the month. After that, it will not be included. Thank you. Wendy Raith Ritual Committee Jerry Newman, Chair jsnewm@gmail.com We continue to need all of your support to assure weekly Saturday morning minyans starting at 9:30 a.m. If you can commit to at least one Saturday service every month it would be greatly appreciated. However, more than one a month would be helpful so that we can assure minyans every Saturday. Please contact me by e-mail with dates that you are available to attend services during the month. If you need a minyan for a yahrzeit during the week or on Saturday please e-mail me at jsnewm@gmail.com. Please give me at least two weeks notice so that I can contact our congregants to assure that we have a minyan. Thank you for your cooperation in assuring that we have minyans on a regular basis and for yahrzeit. Passover services will be on Saturday, April 20 th at 9:30AM, Sunday, April 21 st at 9:30AM and Yizkor will be Saturday, April 27 th at 9:30AM.

President s Message Cathy Litofsky, President adatchaim18@gmail.com We are in the last quarter of the fiscal year. It has been a most wonderful year so far with a lot of activities and services going on at Adat Chaim. I am so grateful for the support of the Rabbi, Ritual Committee and Sisterhood. They have been a continued source of strength and guidance as I navigate through my final year as President. I also would like to give thanks and a Todah Rabbah to the office volunteers, Janet Korba, Wendy Raith, and Lynn Ruddie. It is because they sacrifice their time and give tirelessly to making sure that things run smoothly in the office and that Adat Chaim has coverage each week in the office. In the coming weeks, you may receive a phone call from the chair of the Nominating Committee. Please be kind and take the call from Beverley Fishman. She will be reaching out to discuss the open Board positions, listen to what you have to say, and report back to the Board. Elections will be held in June. The date of the congregational meeting will be either June 2nd or 23rd. Please let Beverley know which date is best for you. We need to ensure a quorum in order to hold elections. An official slate will be sent to all members in good standing in accordance with our bylaws. Please be sure to pay attention to the April calendar for dates of services during Passover. We will hold services the first and second day of the holiday as well as the last day, which includes Yizkor. Jerry Newman has Discount Cards for sale. Please arrange to purchase your cards from him. His information can be found in his Ritual Committee article. Your support of this fund raiser supports the work we do at Adat Chaim. Wishing you and your family a meaningful month of April and Passover celebration. Shalom, Cathy Litofsky, President

Sale of Hametz Passover 5779/2019 The ritual sale of hametz must be completed and received by the office by 9:00 AM Thursday, April 18, 2019 Our tradition teaches that one mitzvah leads to another. The mitzvah of selling hametz is often accompanied by the mitzvah of tzedakah contributions.
